Selena Gomez is becoming more and more succesful, which inevitably is causing the Disney Channel girl to be more and more compared to another mega successful teen idol, Miley Cyrus (as in Hannah Montana).
Do you think Selena Gomez is the next Miley Cyrus?
Professionally, the similarities are obvious. Miley Cyrus is, as everybody knows, a huge hit as an actress in Disney Channel's comedy Hannah Montana, a movie star thanks to films with both the Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus names involved, a super popular por star (her new single "Party in the U.S.A." has been the most downloaded song on iTunes and her tours are always a hit), and a probably very lucrative merchandising franchise, including a new clothing line with Max Azria available in Walmart.
Selena Gomez is not doing badly herself. She is also the star of a Disney Channel show, Wizards of Waverly Place. A TV movie based on the show airs for the first time on Sunday, August 28th at 8pm EST on the same channel. She has a very anticipated album, Kiss and Tell, coming up, with the first single, "Falling Down", premiering in two days on Friday, August 21st on Radio Disney. And though it might not be her own clothing line (yet?), she is the headliner in a Sears Back to School campaign that includes the chance to win the opportunity to meet her on a red carpet.
See the point? Obviously, both girls are Disney Channel stars and follow the same path because they work under the same management. However, Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus are similar to each other in a couple of other ways.
Both of them are style icons among teenagers, for once. And there is the frequent tweetering, tweeting,or using of Twitter, social media stars both teen stars choose to either promote their upcoming songs and videos (thank you, Selena), or to promote more personal, break-up or make up discussions with ex boyfriends (Miley, really?).
That brings the discussion to one thing that still separates these girls from each other: 17-year-old Selena Gomez has yet to be embarrassed by controversial pictures of her in Vanity Fair taken by Annie Leibovitz or taken by herself with a web or phone camera, or to have to endure a was it a pole she was dancing on there debacle? Miley Cyrus, still 16 years old, has already dealt with all of the above.
But then again, they have even dated the same Jonas brother, Nick!

I think Selena will end up being way bigger than Miley. Selena has morals and is a much better role model than Miley. Miley is a good singer and a good actress but the road she's taking will only lead down-hill from here.

Selena and Miley are experiencing over-growing popularity. But why isn't Demi Lovato mentioned? She already has a #1 album, two TV Movies, and a very succesful tv show.

Young people seem to be able to relate more to Miley because of the fact she seem to behave more like a normal teen. They want to know that they aren't the only one living in the world and making mistakes once in a while. She show that if you make a mistake, it's OK, just try to learn from it and move on.

Selena is okay, and so is Demi. But Miley is in a league of her own...she is a bonafide superstar. Disney hasn't had anyone as big as Miley that I can think of. Miley's music track record stands for itself, you can't compare Selena and Miley. Even Demi, with a #1 CD, is only a fraction of what Miley is. Miley is a juggernaut, a rocket that is on its way to the stratosphere and beyond. Between Demi and Selena, Demi has the inside track right now. Her album went #1, although it didn't sell as many as other recent #1's, and it seems to be fading quickly on the charts. Selena's new songs seem a bit weak, her voice isn't that powerful as Demi's and her range isn't as high. Miley wins on all counts and should be compared with the likes of Madonna, Britney etc. that is the company she should be in, not only Disney starlets.
Ok, all these little tween opinions aside, I will give an honest opinion, though I will first echo someone else's opinion as to why isn't Demi Lovato mentioned?
Anyhow, I think Selena can out act Miley even though Miley knows how to hit her lines and deliver a laugh, but dramatic acting is much more serious, and I haven't seen anything from Miley to convince me she is on top of that. Musically, I think Miley totally dominates over Selena in just every way. Yes, Selena has a cute voice and all, but it's nothing unusual and these days you either have to be very, very good or unusual. I think Miley is very good and I also think she is unusual. Again, if we were adding Demi to the equation, I would say she can sing on Miley's level, though obviously in a totally different way. I would more comfortably compare Selena's singing to Emily Osment.

Helll NOOOO!!! Miley cyrus is the queen. Selena can never fill the shoes of the GREAT Miley Ray Cyrus. Miley is going to be huge. She is only 16 and she is already taking over the world by the time she is 20 she will be # 1 and there will be no one like her. Selena can't sing an dher acting skill are pretty teribble. Ive seen a few episodes of wizards and they are not as good as Hannah Montana. I feel that Demi lovato has a stronger chance to becoming the next miley cyrus rather than selena. She has a chance of coming close to being like her but i mean Miely is Miley. SH eis one of a kind. And her preformance at the TCA was Amazing. And she was just being MIlEY !! LOL
i dont think so the reason behind it is selena has been around for a while now working, and she has done good but not great. Miley in the other hand has had hit after hit in a short time. If Selena was going to take mileys spot she would have already done it, but thats not the case MIley is still on top.

I really dont like the article because the comparisons made could make all the disney stars seem the same,and doesnt seem right to compare 2 very talented teens to each other like that. Though I believe Selena is a better actress than Miley. I love Mileys show and she has some great songs. Besides their styles are completely different.
Miley was not embarassed by the VF pix or her TCA performance. DC may have been. Miley's little indiscretions(phone pix) and outspoken personality only make her more relatable to her peers. Thats why she is so much more popular than Sel. Sure, Sel's a 'good girl' and will appeal to those who likewise strive so hard to be lil ms perfect.
Miley doesn't mind being her own personal regardless. As they say, She's just being MILEY =]
