The first Take Back America Tour was this weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kansas City is also on the Take Back America tour docket. Perhaps somewhere in southeast Michigan – with its sky-high unemployment numbers like Washtenaw,Wayne or Macomb County – might be fitting settings for the tour.
Former Governor Sarah Palin and Fox News talk show host Glenn Beck were the first to launch the tour and spread the conservative message that America is broken and it needs to have its values, principles, and founding religious guidance restored.
What is perplexing to many detractors is why is there a need to have America taken back? What or whom is America being taken back from?
President George Washington understood that possibility very well when American values and her religious principles could be trampled or ignored. In his presidential farewell speech he said, “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion." Sept. 17, 1796
Look around the nation and see the hundreds of thousands of families who are living on the brink of economic destruction whose homes and lives are being foreclosed on. This devastating crisis would suggest rather convincingly that unjust political dominion is being practiced in Washington D.C.
Now in its second year the Blame-it-on-Bush (BIOB) administration just does not apply any longer and this administration needs to start taking responsibility for its own non-action. In Michigan, which has been the state hardest hit by the recession depression, tens of thousands of families who have seen their life savings and job security evaporate would probably welcome an America taken back.
Back to not only economic security but the security of religious values and principles.
Back to the respect for life and those like Terri Schiavo who still continue to be the tragic victims of an uncaring medical and political community.
Taking America back is not a political cry to rally the disaffected or the politically defeated in the conservative camp, in Ann Arbor, Michigan or America but it is a vigorous adoption of the notion that religious rights and values are being taken away from our children’s public school textbooks, public prayers at public meetings, and children being able to pray in school in silence.
So if Americans are fed up and do not want to take what Washington D.C. is serving any longer and Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity or the Tea party of America want to tour every state in the nation and rally Americans to care, to take back those values, then it is the least that can be done. We cannot afford to be weakened any further.

Religious rights and values are being taken away from our childrens public school textbooks? Isn't Texas adding such "rights". In other words, changing history. For a black man, you are pretty clueless.
And what is Palin suggesting to bring back economic stability? Tax cuts - as if corporate taxes have steadily increased over the last several decades instead of the opposite.
Manufacturers have not moved their facilities overseas because of burdensome taxes, they've done so to exploit cheap third world labor. Should we go ahead and expect American workers to live on a few dollars a day to compete in the "global economy"?
When Palin comes out against this country's criminally stupid trade policies, then maybe, just maybe, I will take her more seriously. But considering she chose to deliver her first paid speech to an audience of Asian investors, I don't expect she will be a champion of "Buy American" anytime soon.
Palin is about as anti-Christian as you can get. What Christian values does she bestow: hatred, lies, greed, pride.
Good article. No, Nigeria, Texas is simply trying to put back in the "true" facts that have been taken out over the years, not changing history. The books have already re-written history and they are just trying to correct that.
I agree with much of what you say. Although I'm not sure it was a wise move for her to step down from being a Governor, those against Sarah Palin are just parroting what they've heard in the lamestream - er - mainstream media. Great George Washington quote. Wow. Strong comments from Nigeria.
