The more and more on-line restaurant discount couponing companies that are appearing the more one has to consider if this is the death knell for Restaurant Weeks held in many cities throughout the country. It sure makes one stop and go hmmmmmm.
Could Restaurants.com, Groupon.com, LivingSocial.com and up-and-coming local on-line discount restaurant dining coupons be the beginning of the end for summer and winter Restaurant Weeks?
You ask why?
It is a buyers market, so many choices and discounts why would one buy into Restaurant Week’s limited menu, date restraints, too many courses and at some locations, smaller portion sizes. What will be the driving force to Restaurant Weeks when with the coupon system you can go almost any day and order whatever you want, when you want at a better discount?

Are you currently buying any of the discount couponing? Restaurateurs and consumers, would love to hear your comments? Point and counterpoint.

Yup, I am buying the coupons - I really love them, especially because then I can choose what items I would like to spend money on, unlike Restaurant Week!
As far as I can tell, only the small potatoes restaurants that are still trying to get an audience are going for the discount coupons. Once big players like the Prime Rib, etc., jump on the bandwagon, then there's an issue. Otherwise, why didn't Restaurant.com ruin Restaurant Week years ago, before it even started?
Well in Baltimore the higher end restaurants are now participating and there is more than one on-line couponing company. Personally, I prefer the coupons over Restaurant Week but that is quite obvious by my post.
I have to laugh, the Groupon Ad is above our comments.
I don't think so. There's something special about Restaurant Week that appeals to diners like me. I view it as an opportunity to try someplace new, particularly when they post their special RW menu. With Groupon, I'm typically looking for deals at the places I already frequent.
I think also the economics for RW are better than Groupon. The attached blog offers an interesting perspective: http://posiescafe.com/wp/?p=316
