Is Obamacare Socialism or Salvation?

He's done what no other President has been able to do in the last 100 years.

With the recent passage of President Obama's health care bill through the Senate, we need to stop and take a look at the facts. A number of people try and dissuade you by stating that you are going to end up paying for everybody else's healthcare, that this bill will cover abortion, that this health care plan is the first step into the United States becoming Socialist. Or that this is all some grand plan of President Obama's to take over the private sector. Are any of these sensational statements true?

Let's take a look at them one by one. First, is Obama trying to take over the private sector? No. He's just trying to reform health care. When he wants to create a government department to take over Wal-Mart you can start worrying. Next, will this bill pay for abortion? Well, that's a mixed issue. The House's version of the Bill prohibits funding for abortion, whereas the Senate plan allows states to choose whether to ban abortion coverage in health plans offered. Individuals purchasing plans through the exchange, would have to pay for abortion coverage out of their own pocket. So the answer is no, you won't be paying for abortion.

Next on the list, is will you be paying for everyone else's healthcare? Well, why are you complaining now? You're paying for Medicare, and Medicaid. You're paying for ambulance calls, and life lifts. That's where your tax dollars are already going. The only people who will be paying MORE is single individuals who make more than $200,000 a year, and married couples who make more than $250,000 . Is this a problem? I don't see why. If you're that wealthy you're already paying 1.45 percent tax, and it will be raised to 2.35 percent. It will be higher if you're wealthier of course. But seriously. If you're making $200,000 a year, have some pride in your country and some pity for those less well off than you. It's not even $5,000 a year. I would give half of my wages if I made $200,000 a year. So that's the mark. If you are single, and making less than $200,000 you won't take a hit. And if you're a couple making less than $250,000 than you're safe too.

Last but not least, is this passage of Health Care Reform Bill a step towards Socialism? Well in a way. Public health care is a page out of Socialism's book. Are you complaining about that? I don't see why you would complain. Here's a list of all the "Socialist" programs we currently have. I hope you choose not to use them if you have a problem with President Obama's "Socialist Health Care":

  • Public School
  • Public Transportation
  • Department of Transportation
  • Fire Department
  • Emergency Services
  • Police Department
  • Health and Welfare
  • Social Security
  • Medicaid
  • Medicare
  • U.S. Postal Service

So if you're so opposed to this health care bill, please, don't call the Fire Department when your house is burning, don't call the Police when you need help, don't send your kids to school, but most of all, don't drive on those socialist roads made by that socialist Department of Transportation.

It's a sad, sad day for America when the federal government gives itself the power to force us to buy a product and support an industry.

Well, they can try to force us anyway. A hell of a lot of people, myself included, simply refuse to comply with unconstitutional overreaches of power like this.

    Bandalero - Agreed.
Hates booth sides - I'm glad you're not going to be using any of those socialist systems.
Trish - That's fine if you don't want to purchase the product. Just pay your $95 a year tax for not having insurance, that way when you do have an emergency we don't have to pay for your healthcare.
CommieBlaster - Shouldn't you be referring to them as Socialists?

Hey bozo, I don't mind pay taxes for things like roads, police, fire departments, those all lend to the good of the "people" note plurality. Health care is an individual issue. I do mind paying a tax for YOUR health care. Pay for it yourself. If the government can force you to buy healthcare, whats to stop them from forcing you to buy other things? I can choose not to use the fire dept, police etc.

  • Daniel Arrey (The Author) 5 years ago

Tink - Hey 'Bozo', you're already paying for some people's health care, like I stated above. Are you someone who makes more than $200,000 a year? If so, then thank you for making so much money to help finance this wonderful plan.

Dan - Notice that every program listed that is a Federal program is broke, and currently underwater by hundreds of billions of dollars.

Those that are run on a local level generally just hang on, as locals can't blindly tax the local population to death. Every one of the Federal programs needs to end. Burn the socialists!

  • Daniel Arrey (The Author) 5 years ago

KingPablo - Since when is everyone of those programs under water? Sure, some have cut spending because the economy is in deep water right now, but that's due to our 'Fiscally Conservative' Republican President of 2000-2008.

It's always 'Tax Spending Socialist Liberals' that get us out of these holes.

  • Jens 5 years ago

In respnse to Pablo, removing all social programs from government would reduce it entirely to its military aspects. If you want a military dicatorship I would be happy to rule it, but otherwise I'd rather avoid that fate. Also, taxing people into poverty is a great way to make them more dependent on the government and subjugating them to do the will of the government. Very handy if you are at the top, so once again, I'd be happy to rule when it comes to that, but the modern idea of poverty is 1900's idea of wealth, when poor people are dying of obesity there is no such thing as poverty. Which means we can afford to increase taxes.
