Is Miranda Barbour a satanist and are her murders satanic crimes?

Miranda Barbour
Miranda Barbour
Fair use, to illustrate article's context.

When the Wiccan, Angela Sanford, stabbed her significant other, Joel Leyba, 11 to 13 times, to death, with “a Wiccan dagger” (an athames); Wiccans distanced themselves from her, claimed that it was not a Wiccan crime, that Wiccans do no such things and that no true Scotsman…well, you know the rest (read upon on Sanford here and here, check out the comment section as well to see what Wiccans had to say).

But, indeed, it may not have been a Wiccan inspired crime wherein a Wiccan committed a human sacrifice in the name of Wicca. Well, how about a lesson learned all around as Christians just want the same rights and respect as followers of any other religion; so I cannot be held accountable for the crusades, the pedophile priest scandal, etc.

It is being reported that Miranda Barbour aka “the Craigslist Killer” (about whom we reported here and here) “claims she murdered dozens while following the teachings of the Church of Satan.” This is a very specific claim and satanists are denying that the correlation is valid.

Case in point; a facilitator of the church of satan, John Brown II, stated, “Satanists aren't by definition murderers.” And the question becomes, who, ever, claimed that 1) satanists (plural) are 2) by definition 3) murderers? This is called making a very reasonable statement which quite logically refutes an argument that no one has ever made.

John Brown II claims that one of the biggest misconceptions about satanists is that they “actually worship Satan, as a being. In fact, they're atheists. ‘It's more like what Satanism would represent,’ he explains.”

Well, it is true that satanists and Atheists have much in common—see here—yet, the phrase speak for yourself comes to mind as there are various flavors of satanism. In fact, the founder of the church of satan for which John Brown II, himself, is a facilitator was Anton LaVey. LaVey put forth an Atheistic front and his church is on the top of the list of those satanists who claim to not worship a literal being.

However, in Anton LaVey’s authorized biography, The Secret Life of a satanist by Blanche Barton, we lean many interesting things such as that which follows.

Consider what Anton LaVey did when his girlfriend, Jayne Mansfield’s son, Zoltan, was mauled by a lion (at Jungleland, a private zoo):

“LaVey felt the impulse to act immediately on the boy’s behalf…and headed across the Golden Gate Bridge toward Mount Tamalpais, the highest peak in the San Francisco Bay Area…Anton had composed his invocation…summoning all the power within himself, LaVey called upon his Brother Satan to spare Zoltan’s life. In remarkable time, Zoltan recovered from his wounds. But complications set in: lion feces had worked its way into one of Zoltan’s gashes and finally seeped into his spinal fluid, developing into spinal meningitis. The boy once more hovered near death…Anton gathered a few dozen members of his congregation together and conducted a Church of Satan ritual, applying their combined power to invoke Satan’s blessing upon Jayne’s son. The doctors were surprised by Zoltan’s speedy recovery. Jayne”

LaVey invoked “his Brother Satan” and members of his congregation invoked “Satan’s blessing.” These are actions made towards a sentient, personal being and not an idea or a metaphor.

Keeping in mind that Miranda Barbour claims that she stopped counting her murder victims when she, specifically, reached number 22 (two elevens, by the way, see our article Satanic crime – murder by numbers, the Barbours and the number 1 (and 11)) note the following very carefully as we learn that, as opposed to his modern day followers:

“Anton LaVey maintains that he isn’t really concerned about accusations of people killing other people in the name of Satan. He swears that each time he reads a new killing spree, his only reaction is, ‘What, 22 people? Is that all?’

Anton is more concerned about those nobodies he’s bestowed godhood on with his philosophy. ‘Certain people like to take up the trappings, methods and hardboiled philosophy of Satanism but aren’t willing to adopt my imposition of ‘responsibility for the responsible.’ They just pick out what they want, change it around to justify what they want to do, invent it if it’s not there and ignore what they find too difficult to adhere to…I’d rather be grouped in the company of killers than in the company of wimps. I don’t think you’d find the pretentiousness in people like Ramirez, or Stanley Dean Baker, or Huberty, or Manson – I don’t think you’d find the noise that all these puffed-up, empty barrel, supposed-Satanists make.’

In a 1986 article regarding accused “Night Stalker” killer, Richard Ramirez, convicted of 13murders in California, LaVey said, ‘When I met Richard Ramirez, he was the nicest, most polite young man you’d ever want to meet...a model of deportment…He seemed like such a polite kid.’”

Of course, LaVey may have been seeking to distance himself from Ramirez. Note that in the book Satanic Crime. A Threat in the New Millennium, William H. Kennedy wrote:
“Ramirez biographer Philip Carlo noted [in the book The Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez] that Richard visited Satanic High Priest Anton LaVey and even stayed with The Black Pope at the Church of Satan headquarters for over a week and participated in several sinister ceremonies. Ramirez was dazzled by the huckster LaVey and struck up a friendship with LaVey's daughter Zeena….
there have been many rumors in the Satanic community that Ramirez went to see Anton LaVey, head of the Church of Satan, once again to inform him of his criminal actions. In this version of events, Richard spoke to LaVey who promptly told him to get lost. There is really no way to confirm this as fact and it may just be gossip.
Ramirez, as mentioned, drew heavily from Church of Satan literature to fuel his relationship with the Devil. This is not to say that LaVey in any way endorsed the Night Stalker, but it is within the realm of possibility that Ramirez paid The Black Pope a visit and identified himself as the Night Stalker.”

Zeena LaVey made appearances in court during the Richard Ramirez trial.

Is it, then, a mere numerical coincidence that Miranda Barbour claims to follow the church of satan (even if “self-styled”) and stops her count at “22 people”?

Anton LaVey also stated:

“If The Satanic Bible is spurring a changed perspective to unleash certain demons, certain elementals into the world, so be it. We will evoke many, many centuries of bloodshed before we approach the terror that Christianity has loosed on humanity.”

Let us stop for a moment to note that The Encyclopedia of Wars (New York: Facts on File, 2005 AD) was compiled by nine history professors who specifically conducted research for the text for a decade in order to chronicle 1,763 wars. The survey of wars covers a time span from 8000 BC to 2003 AD. From over 10,000 years of war 123 wars, which is 6.98 percent, are considered to have been religious wars (and half of those involved Islam). Thus, excusing himself by claiming that Christianity is worse is not only illogical but historically invalid; religious wars are statistically irrelevant (for more info, see Find it Fast - Fast Facts: on religious wars).

The statement above continues directly with:

“There will undoubtedly be more Satanically-motivated murders and crimes in the sense that The Satanic Bible tells you ‘You don’t have to take any more s***.’ But if Judeo-Christian society hadn’t encouraged this immoral succoring of the weak, and made it laudable to buoy up the useless, then there wouldn’t be this intensive need for a reaction against it. Of course, this extreme counter-swing of the pendulum, this vigilantism, will be interpreted as ‘mere anarchy loosed on the world,’ but in reality it will be, for the first time since cave days, justice.’”

“Christian” violence, tyranny, war, etc. go against Christian ethics but satanic violence, tyranny, war, etc. are, according to LaVey, in keeping with satanic ethics.

“LaVey has little charity when it comes to aiding the less fortunate of the world. ‘People don’t realize they take their lives in their hands when they talk to me about ‘helping’ the starving and downtrodden and homeless—my fellow man!’ says LaVey. ‘I consider that a most ignoble endeavor. The only way I would like to ‘help’ the great majority of people is the same way Carl Panzram ‘reformed’ people who tried to reform him. It would be most merciful to help them by relieving them of the life they seem to hate so much. People should be happy I’m not a humanitarian – or I’d probably be the most diabolical mass murderer the world has ever known.”

“In 1967, Anton LaVey worked up ‘Eleven Rules of Earth’ to augment the ‘Nine Satanic Statements’ he had already devised and published among his followers. LaVey long considered the Rules to be too brutal for the uninitiated, prefacing The Satanic Bible with the Statements alone.”

These are some of the Nine Satanic Statements:

4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates.

5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek.

8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification.

This one fits in with this first one:

1. Which is Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence.

Some of the Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth:

4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat them cruelly and without mercy.

6. Do not take that which does not belong to you, unless it is a burden to the other person and they cry out to be relieved.

11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

Now, think of these within the context of a satanist who can use them to justify various crimes.

John Brown II also stated, “I have a saying that ‘Freedom doesn't come from restraint.’ Most other religions teach restraint. We emphasize the human because we're all human.” A report summarizes his sentiments as being, “he says, if Satanists want to drink, they drink. If they want to eat, they eat.” But what about “if Satanists want to murder, they murder”? Oh no!

The report notes, “But that freedom stops with those who want to kill innocent people” and quoted brown thusly, “If that young lady killed as many people as she claims she killed, she is a sociopath. And she's probably a pathological liar, too.”

But that is just it; Miranda Barbour specifies that she only murdered people who deserved it and were thus, not innocent in her eyes. Therefore, she was within her satanic rights (or, rites).

Anton LaVey stated:

“The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in which all the victims are the deserving ones, is more along the lines of truly Satanic.”

Recall that LaVey invoked satan and asked for his blessings upon Jayne Mansfield, but what became of her?

“LaVey conducted a private destruction ritual against Brody, ceremonially writing his name on a piece of parchment and burning it in the flame of destruction. As Brody’s name was consumed, LaVey invoked the powers of the infernal ones, commanding that Brody, likewise, be destroyed within the specified time.”

Thus, LaVey sought to commit the premeditated murder of Sam Brody, Jayne’s attorney. Did the curse work?

“On June 29, 1967, Jayne Mansfield was riding along U.S. 90…a little after 2 a.m….Sam Brody, Jayne’s attorney, was also in the front seat...Suddenly a fog appeared on the deserted stretch of road. A tank truck crept along in front of them…They plowed into the back of the tank truck, killing…Jayne, and Brody instantly. The top of the car was forced back like a sardine can lid…Officers on the scene reported that Jayne Mansfield’s head was almost completely severed from her body.

Investigators set the time of death at 2:25 a.m. At his home in San Francisco, Anton LaVey was working in his study, clipping photos form the German magazine, BildZeitung – pictures taken by photographer Walter Fischer of Anton placing flowers on Marilyn Monroe’s grave. When he was ready to paste the articles into one of the Church of Satan’s scrapbooks, he noticed a story on the back of the clipping, concerning a trip to Ireland that Jayne had been forced to forego.

LaVey was distressed to see that in clipping the article about Marilyn, he had inadvertently cut a photo of Jayne right across her neck. Fifteen minutes later, a reporter from the New Orleans Associated Press bureau called Anton to inform him of Miss Mansfield’s tragic death and ask him for comments. He had gotten LaVey’s name and number from the address book Jayne carried with her.

Anton could not speak. The journalist, hearing only silence on the line, pressed LaVey, asking if he knew she had practically been decapitated in the accident. LaVey hung up the phone. He was all too familiar with the web of incidents which had led to Jayne’s death—a pattern of events reporters had no way of knowing at the time. LaVey’s own ritualistic words demanding retribution, must have echoed in his mind during those moments. Anton had placed a curse, not on his devoted witch, Jayne, but on her attorney, Sam Brody after being harassed, ridiculed, and slandered one too many times. Despite numerous verbal warnings, and several close calls, it seems Jayne could not keep Brody away. Even on the night she died.”

Anton thought he could control the curse but satan had other ideas; there is always a price to pay.
