Is Lindsay finally back?
It has been a few weeks since Lindsay Lohan has been released from rehab and onto the streets of New York City and she seems to be trying to be on her best behavior. She had a very funny turn as a stand in host for Chelsea Lately, did an interview with Oprah which airs August 18th on OWN, did a guest spot on “Eastbound and Down” and has hired a sober companion. It seems like she is on the road to recovery and hopefully also on the road to recovering her career. There is no doubt that she is very talented and this may be her last chance because even many of her supporters are starting to give up on her. But if she can make every remember her for her not and not her antics, she has a good chance of making a huge comeback. But for those who don’t remember her the way she was before the drugs, here are some of her movies back when she was still being hailed as the next big thing in Hollywood:
1) Parent Trap- there is no way to talk about Lindsay Lohan without the movie that really introduced the world to her. This movie was about twins whose parents separated and each took one child. Then years later they send them both to camp where they meet and hatch a plan to switch places and meet the other parent. They soon realize that their parents are still in love with each other and they try to get them back together. This movie was great on so many levels but mainly because Lohan played both roles flawlessly. She was so convincing as twins that many little kids(including myself) actually thought that there was two of her.
2) Freaky Friday- this was her welcome back to the big screen role. She had done a few TV movies for the Disney channel over the years after the Parent Trap but this was the first big screen movie that she did in years. This movie also starred Jaime Lee Curtis as her mom who switches bodies with Lindsay’s character. The movie was not only hilarious, but it showed that Lohan had arrived to the Hollywood party and was going to take the world by storm. She had comedic timing and even held her own with Curtis who could have over powered Lohan in the movie. She showed that she could hold her own starring in a movie, even with other big named actors to share the spotlight with.
3) Mean Girls- Lohan played the role of a naive former home schooled girl coming from Africa learning that the African jungle had nothing on the jungle of American high school perfectly. This role and movie is hailed as her best ever because of how she took a very clueless girl and made her hated and loved at the same time. Whenever people think of Lindsay during the good years, this always the movie that people refer to as being her at her best.
4) Georgia Rule- while this movie didn’t do as well in the box office as her other movies and was criticized as not being as good as her other movies, it showed that she had acting range. She didn’t have to just play the funny girl anymore, but could show some depth and play a more emotional role. This movie wasn’t bad, it just felt incomplete; with Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman this movie showed have wowed audiences. But the emotional range that she portrays in this movie is so touching that it moved her from being only a comedic actress and made people take notice that she could do any type of movie offered to her.
If you haven’t seen any of these movies go see them all right now to relive Ms. Lohan’s glory days and also to prepare for her new movie The Canyons which is out in select theatre. While it is known that she was a slight mess on set, the reviews are mixed about her performance in the movie. Hopefully people will give her a chance and go see the movie.
Lindsay Lohan is on the comeback trail and with everyone watching and waiting if she makes it through it is about time that she is once again known her talent and not her antics.
