Is Apple's reign coming to an end?
Apple has long been king of the consumer technology world with its innovative products, modern design, and loyal customer base, but Apple’s fortunes have taken a hit of late. No product is immune. From smartphones and tablets, to ultrabooks, the times may be changing.
Anjelica Tan at Kiplinger's recently did a an article mentioning 14 gadgets that might give Apple a run for their money.
I spoke with Tan about her article and how she came up with her choices and the categories she picked.
She picked smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops.
"I looked at the most recent lines of gadgets coming out, and wanted to find (products) that compete with Apple," explained Tan.
As far as the picks in her article, Tan said it was difficult to narrow them down.
"It was hard to keep the list to a reasonable number," added Tan.
What she came up with was a pretty good list.
She had the Samsung Galaxy S III comparing favorable to the iPhone. The Google Nexus series of tablets competing with the iPad, and the Microsoft Surface competing with both the iPad and the Macbook Air.
According to the article is has to do with not only performance and form factor, but price.
The Nexus 7 tablet rivals the iPad mini with its 7-inch HD screen and competitive pricing — you can buy the 16GB Wi-Fi model for $199, while the similar iPad mini costs $329.
I was also pleased to see Tan mention the new Vizio Laptop Series. I'm impressed by what Vizio is doing and so was Tan. Many people don't realize what a quality laptop Vizio is making, but now they may know.
Tan also covered desktop units in the article and she mentioned the Sony Vaio Desktop and Vizio's All-in-One Touch PC. I guess desktops aren't dead, yet.
