Is Kanye West stealing from other fashion designers for his collection?

Is Kanye stealing other fashion masters clothing designs? Many in the fashion world seem to think so. When Kanye revealed his latest designs, A.P.C. x Kanye collection, they bore a striking resemblance to the styles that Kanye loves. In particular, this clothing line resembled the artistic flair of Rick Owens for DRKSHDW.

Two coats that Kanye supposedly designed made people question of where did he get his ideas. One was a jacket with a fur collar. It is said to be almost identical to an Emanno Scervino original.

According to Radar Online, a source close to Kanye said, “Some people in Kanye’s camp believe he stole the concept of the phoenix woman in his [2010] video, ‘Runaway’ from a painting done by the father of one of his former creative directors. Kanye always used to visit the director’s father’s studio for ‘inspiration’ so it was pretty obvious where he got the idea.”

The source reported that Kanye only had one semester of art school. He needed to have people tell him who were top in the fashion industry, and what books to read. He needed people to take him to Art Basel, and to the best fashion shows.

Kanye had Virgil Abloh as a creative director. According to the source, “Virgil has no serious training or background in design either. He and Kanye used to call around to other design people nonstop with questions about design. They were really just clueless and they listened to whatever people told them.”

Is Kanye’s fashion designs doomed to fail because they come too close to famous designer originals? Even his soon-to-be-wife, Kim Kardashian is being accused of copying with her new clothing line, Kardashian Kids.
