Almost a week after losing Trent Richardson, new trade rumours are coming around about Josh Gordon and Greg Little. Although head coach Rob Chudzinski has denied the rumors, you have to wonder what else Joe Banner and company are up to. There is news that a few teams are looking into going after the Browns’ wide receiver including Detroit and San Francisco.
The Detroit Lions are looking for a replacement for the injured Nate Burleson. Burleson reportedly broke his arm in a car accident on Monday night trying to grab his pizza from falling off of the seat. The Lions replacement now is 2nd year player Ryan Broyles. Teams obviously won’t look at him as a threat offensively as he only has had 3 catches this season. The Lions are looking for a dangerous and explosive player to draw attention away from Calvin Johnson.
The San Francisco 49ers are also at looking to add depth to the wide receiver position. With Michael Crabtree becoming injured during preseason, the 49ers lost their deep threat. They currently have Anquan Boldin as their #1 receiver, but Boldin is getting older and is struggling in the new offense. Gordon could step in and become that go to guy like he is in Cleveland now.
The biggest concern for both of these teams are Gordon’s off field issues. With two suspensions already, Gordon is one final mistake from being suspended for an entire year from the NFL. Gordon just returned from a two game suspension for failing the illegal substance policy again. His first suspension comes from college, which forced him to transfer schools and eventually not play the 2011 season. H
Gordon could be a top wide receiver in the league if his off field issues were not haunting him. Gordon had 805 receiving yards last year with 5 touchdowns. He was targeted 19 times on Sunday and caught 10 receptions. With only one game in 2013 played, Gordon has 146 yards and 1 touchdown. At 6’3’’ and 225lbs, he has the physical size of a top receiver and his 4.43 40 yard dash speed makes him a fast one too.
