Is Jesus coming soon? Is the end near?

As many have seen globally for the past several days or weeks, an American Christian group has predicted the Rapture and Judgment Day for tomorrow, May 21, 2011. I have commented on this subject in an article, "Is Jesus coming soon? Is the end near?," which briefly examines pertinent issues.

As I say there, exegesis of texts aside, it is unwise to base one's worldview on ancient scriptures that have been claimed to be predicting the events of the day in practically every generation since Jesus's alleged advent. It is likewise perilous to contribute to such unwarranted catastrophic thinking that may indeed exacerbate a situation that truly is degenerating, i.e., the general state of the planet. Then there is the enormous personal toll this sort of thinking has taken on thousands if not millions of people over the past couple of millennia.

If past experience is any indication, all those folks who have sold their belongings and are joining Camping for the Rapture will find themselves still on planet Earth with egg on their faces. Now for my prediction: Camping will then issue a statement that the Second Coming was "postponed" because of this or that, as if he is in communication with Jesus and God, who let him in on his/their plans. Let us not be too hard on them, as, it seems many already having a rough time, which is why they're gung-ho to get off the planet in the first place.

24-hour event beginning on May 20 and ending on May 21st

In this regard, I have also done an interview with Deborah at GodDiscussion.com for her live streaming "May 21, 2011 Judgment Day Party," which will begin at midnight tonight (5/20) and conclude at midnight tomorrow night.

I haven't been added to the roster yet, but I'm assured that at some point my interview will be there. I am also told that major media outlets have picked up on the live-streaming party story.

There is more information at Livestream as well, which is evidently where the video will be played for 24 hours beginning tonight.

Needless to say, I doubt that anyone will be raptured or that the world will end either tomorrow or on October 21, 2011, as is the prediction.
