Back in January 2013 the National Gun Rights Examiner, David Codrea wrote a very hard hitting article which pointed out just how little many so called activists know about our Constitution in general and the 2nd Amendment in particular.
To help illustrate our apathy or conditioning, lets explore a concept of which every adult knows well and that is the concept of TIME. Or do we know the concept as well as we think we do?
1. the period between two events.
2. indefinite and continuous duration regarded as that in which events succeed one another.
We know when it is noon. Familiar, yes, but full understanding is rather doubtful. So just exactly what is noon?
The time or point in the sun's path at which the sun is on the local meridian. Also called noontide, noontime.
Now we put ‘time zones’ into the mix. Noon is noon regardless of one’s position in that time zone. However, if one remembers the definition of noon, it can easily be seen that noon for a time zone is not real time. As a case in point we will look into the ‘Central Time Zone’. The most easterly edge is approximately at Port St. Joe, Florida and extends to approximately El Paso. Texas. The distance between these to cities is approximately 1270 miles which equates a difference between real noon(s) of 1 hour 25 minutes. So there can easily be a considerable difference in real noon and a time zone noon.
What does all this time business have to do with Gun Rights? Actually, a lot more than one might imagine. This ‘time’ example just highlights how we, as a society, are apathetic, ignorant, conditioned, or all three, to accept a certain concept without even thinking about it. Many Gun Rights activists do not even know what the 2nd Amendment actually is. This also applies to the U.S. Supreme Court as illustrated in the McDonald v City of Chicago decision/opinion.
So, we as a society, need to start educating ourselves on the Constitution and how it, for decades, has been abused. That abuse seems to have stopped now. Our Constitution is just being shredded and We the People just stand by and watch and thereby showing our apathy, ignorance and conditioning.
