Makeup and fashion are my pleasures! Sometimes your pleasures can get you in trouble. It can even be illegal! (Get your mind out the gutter!) Founder and owner of Lime Crime Makeup, Doe Deere, believes in the same philosophy through the presence of her fabulously bright and unique color palettes. Lime Crime Makeup allows you to make a scene…a beauty crime scene that will have heads turning and jaws dropping so much that someone will want to make a citizen’s arrest! Just tell them to put down the handcuffs and dip their brush in a pot of Circus Girl or Cleopatra Magic Dust!

Beauty and The Belle: When was the line started and how was the name conceived?

Doe Deere, Owner and Founder of Lime Crime Makeup: Lime Crime is a little under a year old and our name stands for color revolution.. We're all about breaking stale, antiquated beauty laws. Our slogan is, "So bright, it's illegal". We encourage coloring outside the lines and having fun with it!

B.B.: What is the mission of the line?

D.D.: My love affair with color began early in life when I realized that the world in is dominated by gray, beige and brown. When I went looking for super-colorful cosmetics, my search left me empty-handed. Even brands that claimed to have high payoff only looked bright in the packaging. So I decided to start my own line that won't use any filler and offer undiluted, saturated colors with lots of punch! My goal is to bring more color variety into everyday lives and change the perception that only neutrals are desirable in cosmetics.

B.B.: What are some of the products in the line?

D.D.: In October 2009 we are coming out with the Candyfuture Lipstick Collection which will feature 10 core colors and 9 complimentary shades to drop monthly throughout the year. We also have 24 high-impact Magic Dusts (loose eyeshadows).

B.B.: What makes Lime Crime different from most makeup lines, like MAC or Makeup Forever?

D.D.: A few things:
- We don't believe in subtlety. All our products are lavishly pigmented, so 'what you see is what you get': the color in the container is exactly what you're going to get on your lips/eyes, without having to apply a billion times.

- We believe in cute packaging! Women shouldn't to retreat into the ladies' room to touch up makeup, like it's some kind of a shameful activity. There is something undeniably glamorous about a woman pulling out a beautiful lipstick tube or a compact and applying it out in the open. We want to bring that tradition back, and this why beautiful packaging is a priority here at Lime Crime.

- Most makeup companies spend time chasing trends where as we like to think of ourselves as trend-setters. Because we are not limited by a particular trend, we can afford to take more risks and offer more cutting-edge product to our customer.

- But the core difference is that Lime Crime is run by a real person, not a group of executives. As its creator and mastermind, I am involved in the process every step of the way, from color and formula development to concept and marketing strategies.

B.B.: How are the names of the colors derived?

D.D.: To me, each color tells a story. Which is why if you go on our website, you'll find a little vignette on every product page. Bright orange, for instance, gives me visions of a young girl in not-so-far-away future getting her first rocket like we get our first car. This is why this color is called My Beautiful Rocket lipstick was born.. No She Didn't, our blue lipstick, does not require an explanation.

B.B.: Are the highly pigmented colors able to be worn by different skin tones?

D.D.: Absolutely. Due to high payoff, colors show up true and bright on all skin tones.

B.B.: What are three must have colors that a woman should have in her arsenal?

D.D.: I don't think any woman should be limited to a number of colors. Let her have a rainbow!

B.B.: What are the future plans for the line?

D.D.: We are the kind of line that is constantly working on new projects. The unicorn never sleeps. :) We have new exciting stuff coming out for the holidays, so Expect the Unexpected!
