“The sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times” – 1 Chronicles 12:32a
Do you what time it is, family? I don’t mean clock-wise; but rather am speaking of spiritual seasons, which produce natural benefits. The Hebrew word for “time,” as used in this verse, is eth (pr. ath), and refers to “seasons (more specifically, due seasons), occurrences, and occasions” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance).
In order to know what season you are in, you must have an understanding of it. This understanding, which the sons of Issachar possessed, is biynah (pr. bee-naw), meaning “knowledge, wisdom.” Webster defines “wisdom” as “knowledge of what is proper or reasonable, good sense or judgment.” True and profitable wisdom can only come from God. James 1:5 testifies of this truth as it invites: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
It is so important for us to ask God for both wisdom and for an Issachar anointing; as these times and seasons are treacherous, and we need an understanding of how to navigate, operate, and function. So what does this have to do with availability? I am glad you asked :-).
Since my fiancé and I have been engaged, the devil has been attacking our pending marriage every which way. And as we get closer to our wedding date of July 5th of this year, the attacks have intensified. We expected this, as we are entering into a Kingdom marriage; and the devil is terrified of this union. He knows that once our day of Holy Matrimony takes place, he is in for trouble personified!
One of the attacks that we have endured is from other people; and sadly, the majority of them are self-proclaimed Christians who we have obediently ministered to. We don’t take it personally, as we know the source behind it. Nor are these individuals bad people; but rather (and unfortunately), spending so much time in their flesh that God’s Holy Spirit isn’t being heard.
My fiancé has been accused of “changing” by many people, which simply isn’t true. We are allowing God to move us into our new season that He has prepared for us. Sadly, many of those who are accustomed to the way she functions in her current season, do not understand this, and have falsely accused her of not being who she is. She has taken this slander far more graciously than me. Her response is nothing short of the grace and wisdom of God. She lovingly responds that she has not changed, but her availability has. Now that’s a good word!
Tragically, many will miss their new season because they are resisting their appointed change in availability that is required to step into this next place. Many, who have been calling in their promise and declaring their new season, are allowing people to dictate their availability, which will cause a delay—or worse yet, a dissolution.
Jesus Himself avails this truth that “no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better’” (Luke 5:37-39). You cannot usher in new while getting drunk on the old.
Availability is a type of wineskin. And the contents of a new season cannot be poured into a mold whose shape is fashioned after outdated availability and old and ineffective ways of doing things. New seasons require new forms with which to take shape—forms rich with the pliability of an individual willing to allow God to reshape availability, habits, methods, and mindsets.
Are you ready to have your new season poured into you, my brother? Finally broken down enough to allow God to remold and reshape you, my sister? Great! Then let’s get ready to receive an outpouring of our new season!
Father, we repent for holding on to outdated and ineffective ways. Forgive us for allowing people to dictate our availability rather than You. We recognize that our new season, while prepared for us, is not about us; but rather it is about You, and winning souls for Your Kingdom. Help us, empower us, embolden us to let go of the demands of people, worldly mindsets, and comfortable but ineffective habits. Breathe on us now Holy Spirit. We cry out for an outpouring of Your Wisdom which will equip us, and for the mantle of Issachar to be dropped upon us, so that we can enter successfully into the new season that You have prepared for each one of us. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we are ready to be remolded and reshaped for Your Glory! Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to forsake the demands of people for submission to the Father. Come into agreement with the Lord’s Prayer found in Matthew 6:10. Determine to allow God to establish and set your availability, which will not bend to the whims of others. By submitting and serving God, you will be able to meet and minister to those He has called to you. And continue to fight the good fight of breaking out of last season’s mold; for God, your New Wine, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
