Gerard Butler is showing lots of interest in a new film, Machine Gun Preacher, being developed based on a book by Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who’ve been kidnapped and pressed into duty as soldiers in the Lord’s Resistance Army.
Childers established an orphanage, the Children's Village, in the Southern Sudan to house 300 children, then formed a militia to protect them, recover other kidnapped kids, and dispense outlaw justice on their captors.
The memoir, Another Man‘s War: The True Story of One Man‘s Battle to Save Children in the Sudan, prompted a Dateline NBC segment on Childers' work and caught the attention of producer Robbie Brenner and screenwriter Jason Keller who approached him about the film rights to his story.
Now it seems the film may very well become a reality.
Not only did Butler meet with Childers late last year in Central City, PA, but according to Deadline Hollywood, the project is being shopped around by CAA and Management 360.
Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace, Monster's Ball, The Kite Runner) is on board to direct the film.
The Daily American reported last weeks that Somerset Pennsylvania artist Casey Kennell recently completed a trailer for Childers to use on his summer book tour and has been commissioned to complete three more paintings for the preacher: one for a truck and two for motorcycles that are to appear in the movie.
Filming may begin this May in Reels Corner, Pennsylvania.

I don't know about "born to play" but this incredible man can play anything!! I know, I know, you don't all like everything he does, but that what he does, he does damn well. His portrayal of the father in LAC was brilliant!! Why it has garnerd no awards as of yet, is beyond me. It was a brilliant piece of work in my eyes. Made all the better by Gerry's very forceful personality and acting ability. The man gets better and better as he ages. I for one pray he can keep up the ability to do action movies. He is positively awesome in them, as well as so adorable in rom/coms!!

Wonderful--but shooting in May??? Isn't he doing Corialanos in Serbia with Ralph Fiennes this spring, too. I don't doubt he can handle back-to-back films but it seems like a crunch.
But I'm one happy fan anytime I can see his work. Woo Hoo!

Gerry is an exceptional actor and one of heck of a cool guy. He has already put out some amazing performances that a lot people haven't seen. LAC was only 1...Dear Frankie? Phantom of the Opera? Just to name 3...I'm interested how we will fit all this in...He's also got Burns on the string somewhere along with Slider...The man can only do so much..but I think Maching Gun Preacher sounds like an awesome role that will have people notice his tremendous talent.

oh incredible man? born to play? give me a break. I think he's a good actor who has made very poor choices as of recently. He's now mostly known now as a tabloid guy and his recent work is completely forgettable.
I think this project sounds amazing and I'd be very happy if Butler was to do it. He needs a good role more than ever.

He is a super man and such a fabtastic acot. The more genres he tackles the more brilliant he becomes. I have watched him from a little film called please and another very very special series The Jury. He makes you laugh and as in Phantom he makes you weep for the pure pain that the man endures. Rejection, love, hate Gerry knows them all. He will be amazing. Another Olivier. very possibly. I know I'll be there. Good Luck Gerry and God bless you for all your effort with Haiti.

This storyline is very real, very human, down to earth... people everywhere can and will relate to it, which makes it very appealing...then add to that the very elite, the best and most outstanding acting abilities of anyone in the business, Gerard Butler, and you will have winner, a must see movie. This will be worth waiting for. Like all the other films he has made, it will be award worthy...He is truly a dedicated, creative and talented man who knows how to always captivate an audience. Love all his movies..I own every one of them starting with Mrs. Brown, Attila, and all others available to date. I treasure them and enjoy watching them along with family and friends. I will be waiting for this one.
I hope if Gerard gets this film, he manages to stay alive in it. I am soooo tired of seeing him get killed off all the time. He keeps this up and I'll start calling him the "Death Star". I just watched LAC, what a Great movie, just a terrible ending.

Also would like to see you in a serious romantic drama.I think Burns will be good.
Gerry your so beautiful.Give us some really serious romantic dramas.Also give us some gladiator movies,we never get enough of those when your in them.Give us some period pictures and or historical pictures.You shine in them.Your the handsomest man that has ever been on the screen. if the last person watches mrs. brown he does the full monty although it was 14 years ago and he has definitely improved with age. anyway i think a bit of imagination is better than having it in your face, excuse the pun. now back to gerrys acting, i love all the different genres he goes for, and the romcoms he does are to really break up the full on films, for example, ps i love you was after a very tough 300 and shattered. i he did the ugly truth, which i personally loved and thought was brilliant after the really tough gamer. then he did the bounty hunter after a very dramatic lac, which again was hilarious, especially the action between him and jen. although critics always have bad opinions of gerrys acting, the box office says differently. i think he is a very talented and versatile actor and seems to be able to put his talents to any type of film. he is also a very nice man. i have met him 4 times now at the london premieres and he is so kind and affectionate to his fans, and cant do enough for them. he gives autographs, hugs, kisses and has his photo taken with you as much as time allows him to. i have all his films, of various genres, 40 in all, that includes documentaries and voiceovers and even bodyguard when he was an extra at 22 years old and lucy sullivans getting married which is a 16 part series which last 8 hours and i watch this once and awhile when i have a few weekend, as once you start it you cant stop. i always look forward to his newest film roles as they are always so different. he isnt one of these actors who always does the same types of film, but it makes it very hard to choose a favourite film of his because they come under so many categories.
