Is FCC Diversity czar Mark Lloyd next on Beck's hit list?

Mark Lloyd FCC Diversity Czar

Van Jones is a gone pecan and the right wing libertarian movement led by the new de facto head of the conservative party Glenn Beck smells blood . Fresh off the ousting of  former special assistant for "green jobs" Van Jones Glenn Beck supporters are calling for the public lynching of FCC Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd . For conservatives to effectively target Mark Lloyd it looks like it will take more than it did to bounce Van Jones out of his position . Lets look into Mark Lloyd's back ground to see if there is enough rope .

What do Conservatives and right wing talk shows have against Mark Lloyd . Well for starters they do not like the article he co authored a few years ago while he was working at "The Center For American Progress" entitled "The Structural Imbalance Of Political Talk Radio." Mark Lloyd said about his article " the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management." The report’s authors explicitly state that they do not think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated, and Lloyd has since said that he has “no plans or interest” to resurrect the law.

Approximately 91 percent of weekday talk radio programming is conservative, and just nine percent is progressive. However, 43 percent of regular talk radio listeners identify as conservative, while 23 percent identify as liberal and 30 percent as moderate.” Much of this imbalance was created in the wave of consolidation after the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which “removed the national limit on the number of radio stations that one could own.” What progressives like Lloyd are advocating is not more liberalism, but more localism.

Mark Lloyd may be conservative dominated  talk radios highest profile target but writing a few articles and expressing your views in a non-radical  format is not enough rope in my estimation for Glenn Beck supporters to go after Mark Lloyd.

The Crux of the matter (Have you ever heard of a Monopoly?) - Is localism code word for Fairness Doctrine? , no it isn't , Rush Limbaugh started the popularity of conservative talk shows in the 80's and since then broadcasting owners have jumped on the band wagon . I do not support a forced balancing of the radio markets . I do support radio broadcasters giving liberal shows at least a chance to make it on the air , which is something they are not doing . Plenty of liberal shows would be willing to come up with their own financing until they can attract advertisers . So where are the liberal shows? They were run out of town during the Reagan era when the Fairness Doctrine was changed . If your opponent does  not take the field they can not win the game. Why not open radio up and see who comes out on top of a competitive market place? , Rush Limbaugh is not going anywhere . Once again it comes down to dollars. See those two figures in the 3rd paragraph (23 & 30 =53) . More than half of conservative talk show listeners are not even conservative . Conservative broadcasters do not want to let liberal shows in on the action for fear their large number of non-conservative listeners will dwindle .

Let us not kid ourselves , radio is big business .

What do you think?

First off, how can Beck be the de facto leader of the Republican leader, when he is a libertarian and rips on the Republican party as much as the Democratic party? Maybe you should look that up.

Second, instead of playing the "GOP is going after President Obama's leaders because he is a Democrat/Black/Progressive" card, why don't you actually do some journalistic reporting. Look into Mark Lloyd's background, his statements, and what do you see? A government takeover of the AM radios in the future.

Now, I am not a Republican, but I am tired... tired of having to do the research myself because the people that are supposed to be getting paid to do it, are instead attacking the regular people.

You NOW have it right! Mark Loyd, the Marxist Obama picked to run the FCC Diversity Gestapo, is next to be removed from the US Government. He just loves what dictator Hugo Chavez has done with the media in Venezuela.

After the Jones controversy reached a boiling point on Friday, the Washington Post published a story, "White House Says Little on Embattled Jones," on page A-3 of its Saturday edition. But the New York Times remained silent on the story.

Likewise, on Friday night the "CBS Evening News" reported the Jones matter, but ABC's "World News" and "NBC Nightly News" again failed to report the story.

UPDATE: Sunday morning STATE RUN MEDIA, MSDNC, ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, PBS, all had the story of the right wing forcing out a man who only wanted to produce good green jobs.

All those who only get their news from the State Run Media never heard of Jones until ONE news network, GATEWAY PUNDIT, and the internet of patriots who find and allow the appointees to talk to us in their own words. No one elses. Their own.

You liberal leftists got all tingly over your Obamasiah's election. He was actually elected by a lot of morons with guilt about slavery... NOT because they wanted him to turn America into Cuba. You thought you could just run roughshod over conservatives now...Obama tired it and was blown over by "loud voices" at town hall meetings... Van Jones tried it by boycotting Glenn Beck... and we all know what has happened in both cases.

Time to learn a lesson, follow the constitution and enjoy the three years you have left.

Mark Lloyd has to go, first of all, if liberal radio could make it in the free market it would but it can't. I see nothing wrong with right-wing talk radio it is a perfect example of the free markets at work and of the first amendment of the Constitution. So, did Mark Lloyd take an oath of office? You know, the one where you swear to uphold and defend the Constitution and by his remarks he is also anti-capitalism which means he's communist or a fascist.

Lloyd's CAP "study" on media bias is not merely "an expression of opinion," it is deliberately dishonest. At the beginning, it defines the study universe as "commercial radio." Throw out NPR, a huge and highly liberal network, and the results you want are guaranteed.

As a First Amendment lawyer in the US Supreme Court for 33 years, I assert that Lloyd is a blood enemy of freedom of the press because he neither understands it nor respects it. Lloyd should be thrown out on his ear. I also believe that he will be thrown out.

Race baiting - This has nothing to do with race. This has to do with free speech.

Mark Lloyd said, " the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system".

The gap is because no one wants to listen to liberal idiots on the radio which in turn means they can never create a fan base and fail. The American people do prefer Conservative talk radio over babbling liberals. This isn't a Lloyd lynching. IT's self defense. Beck is one of those conservatives being targeted. The proposed FCC regulations are an attempt by Obama czar\drone to quiet all dissent. Wake Up!

If liberal/progressive talk shows got audiences, the 'money-grubbing, corporate bad guys' would have them on the air. Air America crashed and burned almost immediately. There's some weak station here in PDX OR - KPOJ - it's lost audience share, now has 2.7, tied with KPAM and waaaay behind the two leading talk shows in the area. This is consumer choice. There are 14 stations ahead of KPOJ - most are FM stations, including the top station for Spring 09 according to Arbitron.

As an African-AMERICAN, I am extremely glad that Van Jones has been sent packing! The LAST thing we need are Communists of ANY color invading the White House, whether by request (which is incredibly disappointing/telling) or subversion! Unfortunately, the prior legalized racism we experienced in this country have served to open the doors to "others" who have exploited this weakness in the foundation. However, this is almost 2010.

Anyone who saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Soviet system, China's own need for free [though internal] markets, and still sides with such individuals is an idiot. Yale or no Yale...

Also, the author of the article stated that the liberal radio shows "were run out of town during the Reagan era when the Fairness Doctrine was changed." I'd like to see this claim substantiated.

The crux of the matter is that we now have a Corporate Media...and is monolithic. They pay and encourage the millionaire Becks & Limbaughs to try to destroy any semblance of democracy that remains. The CEOs of the now Monopolistic media are the same CEOs that run Wall Street and our Government. They own at least 50% of Fed. legislators and influence the other 50% in varying degrees. We are becoming an America by and for the Corporations and Beck etc are egging us on to destroy the vestiges of Democracy so that the Corporations can take over completely. Every time we rail against the Fairness Doctrine our Corporate rulers jump for glee.

  • Keith 2 years ago

Yes corporate greed is so greedy that they don't want to expand their revenues by looking into the allegedly profitable world of liberal radio. Yeah, that's the ticket.

  • GTurner 2 years ago

Sigh... Lynchings, Right-wing Fascism, Nasty Corporate CEO's... Will you PLEASE give it a rest? We are a REPUBLIC, founded on the CONSTITUTION! If you want to find something which ACTUALLY threatens our Republic, look no further than the mere EXISTENCE of "Czars". Why are you not all freaked-out by Obama IGNORING Article 2, Section 2, which defines the Senate "Advise and Consent" role in the appointment of Ambassadors, Public Ministers and Consuls, Justices of the Supreme Court and ALL OTHER OFFICERS of the United States?

I can't IMAGING Congress approving Mr. Jones, Mr. Lloyd or Mr. Sunstein to attend the Mens Room in the White House, much LESS advise the President on important matters.

Get real, or stuff it, Liberals. PLEASE.

  • Freedom is Fairness 2 years ago

Liberal radio talk shows have had plenty of chances, but they fail because people are simply not interested in listening to them. They still have the opportunity to compete, and more power to them! But the thing is that people who are listeners of talk radio appreciate solid reason in the conversations, and it is sadly very difficult to find a liberal commentator who speaks on a solid foundation of reason.

  • FedUp 2 years ago

You failed to mention a another little "big" problem - this guy seems to admire Chavez. This is from Scripps news:
There he was in 2008, participating in a conference on "media reform," telling us what a wonderful leader Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, was, and wincing at an unpleasantness the dictator had to deal with, the uppity owners of media, people who had some objections in mind.
He spoke of Chavez's "incredible revolution, a democratic revolution," and of the "property owners and the folks who then controlled the media in Venezuela" who "rebelled" and who "worked to oust him." Still, said Lloyd, Chavez "came back with another revolution, and then ... began to take very seriously the media in his country

  • FedUp 2 years ago

The progs don't like the free market - bottom line. They don't like liberty/free speech unless it is their own. There is no such thing as "competition" - just government run and owned. It's called communism, clear and simple. I used to like liberals because they were for freedom, now they have morphed into oppressors.

  • Leemart 2 years ago

So Conservatism rules the radio waves. I guarantee this is but a drop in the bucket compared to the dominance of Liberalism in TV and print media.

  • concerned citizen 2 years ago

Are you kidding? Lloyd thinks Chavez and Venezuela are the model to follow and that their revolution was admirable. Most American's do not want dictators, communism, socialism, fascism, etc. If anything, I would like to file a complaint against CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, etc., dot not having fair and balanced programming. None of these stationed discussed anything about the radical nature of the individuals in the administration, as if it was not important or as if the American people did not have the right to know.

  • LouGanzo 2 years ago

The argument of a monopoly makes no logical sense whatsoever. Is the author trying to suggest that all the money in radio is tied up in the Christian Coalition or something. This is the kind of empty-headed rhetoric that only sells to the sheep. FOX gets 1/25 of the viewership of the broadcast networks. Where is the call for balance there? How many conservative newspapers do we have in the country? Where is the call for balance there? NPR has been getting tax money for decades and they tilt far to the left. PBS tilts far to the left. The LEFT always forgets those facts.

Rush didn't make talk radio popular - he just did it better than anyone ever and captured a national audience and when the ratings went through the roof the ad money followed. I acutally heard Air America use air time to ask for advertisers. They had to waste air time and drive off listeners because they had so few companies willing to sponsor a network that wants to destroy capitalism. Now, how could that be?

  • LouGanzo 2 years ago

The real problem with Liberal talk radio is that it is all negative all the time. If you turn on Air America today - if you can find it - they are still talking about impeaching Pres. Bush or arresting Dick Cheney. What does that have to do with anything? They are religious in their zeal for gotcha politics. They hate. They say it. Nobody wants to listen to that. I saw on MSNBC - another little-heard network -, Larry O'Donnell, one of the most hateful, bitter, twisted people on the air take on the lady who stood up to Arlen Spector at the town hall. Larry invites her on while guest-hosting for Olberman and goes Katie Couric on her to make her look bad. She wasn't a professional pundit. She was just a housewife. But this rather hateful guy was glad to try and make her look bad with stupid arguments that anyone active in politics would have taken apart in a minute. That's the left in the media for you. The right takes calls, debates, enganges, inspires. The left does none of that.

  • LouGanzo 2 years ago

I saw one of CNN's adds in the airport this week. It said "the most viewed network for eight years straight" of something to that effect. At first I thought that was an error. Must be. CNN is terrible. It's hard to watch. I mean, they have Larry King on CNN still. Talk about throw away T.V. time. Sure, they got into cable news first, but they aren't leading the pack today in quality.

Then I realized how true it must be. When I fly, FOX is very often not available on the planes. In some hotels they don't put FOX on in the rooms. The airports are all CNN all the time - which is really insufferable. I do believe in Canada that they don't/won't even broadcast FOX. It was a government prohibition. Can you imagine that? How totalitarian are those cunnucks in the government up there? Is that the Utopian socialism we've all been promised?

We always hear about how bias FOX is. They are soooo conservative, not credible, one-sided. The argument is that FOX's bias balances o

  • LouGanzo 2 years ago

The argument is that FOX's bias balances out the other networks. A little clarity here though - in America the broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS) get 25 times the viewership that FOX gets. Far more people who still get their news on TV get it from the broadcast networks. People even still watch Kaite Couric's news broadcast which seems unbelievable. Now, when it comes to the nightly news shows, FOX gets better ratings than any other shows. O'Reilly gets better ratings than all his competitors combined for example. But overall there is a gigantic difference in the viewership of FOX and the other networks because FOX doesn't broadcast their signal and hasn't been around as long.

So, CNN is still the most viewed news network. But let's be honest. They can only claim that because many of the viewers watch CNN because they have no choice. So, a new slogan, "CNN, The network you choose when we don't give you a choice." I like that. Someone get Anderson Cooper on the phone

  • Don Gray 2 years ago

If all it came down to was dollars I am sure that Soros would fund quite a few hundred shows to compete.

I do not like the monopoly that clearchannel and others have on the radio and market. So why don't they go down that road instead of sneaking in the shadows of diversity?

  • Jeff 2 years ago

Didn't Soros fund Air America? Hasn't that been a disaster?

  • Spud Hosnick 2 years ago

And, the Fairness Doctrine wasn't changed by Reagan; it was a bill passed by both houses of democratic-controled Congress because it was stifling. Funny that Clear Channel (co-owner of Rush's show) has actually tried liberal talk radio in many markets (supporting Air America) using profits they made from Rush and others.

  • paul 2 years ago

President Obama's diversity czar at the Federal Communications Commission, Mark Lloyd, has spoken publicly of getting white media executives to "step down" in favor of minorities, prescribed policies to make liberal talk radio more successful, and described Hugo Chavez's rise to power in Venezuela "an incredible revolution."

It just doesn't get any more racist than that. Lloyd suggests that executives that have risen to the top through hard work and merit must know step down because of their race.

Get Lloyd the he!! out of there.

Hello. I was reading some of the comments. It seems that the statement "conservative broadcasters do not want to let liberal shows in on the action for fear their non-conservative listeners will dwindle" is not true. I do not believe that "non-conservatives" would regularly listen to a conservative broadcaster. I think this is only a way to control the media for everyone. We must protect free speech for both sides liberal and conservative!
