David Tom was brought back to “The Young and the Restless” in the role of Billy Abbott when a contract could not be agreed upon with Billy Miller. Now it seems that David Tom may be on his way out the door and the role may be recast for the second time in six months.

David Tom, who currently portrays Billy Abbott on “The Young and the Restless,” was brought back after Billy Miller and CBS Daytime were unable to come to a contractual agreement. Today, Friday, May 23, report says that David Tom is on his way out the door at "The Young and the Restless" and the role of Billy Abbott will be recast.

The role of Billy Abbott has been recast several times since the character’s on-screen birth in 1993. In 1999 David Tom began playing Billy as a teenager and won a Daytime Emmy in 2000 for his portrayal. Tom vacated the role in 2002 and the role of Billy Abbot was recast two more times. Ryan Brown portrayed Billy until the character left the fictional town of Genoa City in a storyline dictated departure. In 2006 Scot Seymour came on board, only to be fired three months later.

Billy Miller took over the role of Billy Abbott in 2008, fresh from his role as Richie Novak on “All My Children.” Miller, who became an immediate fan favorite, was still appearing in the opening credits for “All My Children” when his “Young and the Restless” scenes began airing. It was announced in November 2013 that Miller was exiting the role of Billy Abbott. His last scenes aired on Friday, Jan. 31 and David Tom’s scenes began airing the next Monday.

Reportedly Jill Farren Phelps and CBS Daytime have already reached out to Billy Miller with an offer to return as Billy Abbott. Sources say the contract was insulting and that CBS Daytime tried to “low ball” Miller. “The Young and the Restless” has lost 1,500,000 viewers in almost 5 months and Jill Farren Phelps job is on the on line and she is scrambling to save a sinking ship sources say.
