Is Cuccinelli going against tradition?

Henrico and far west end voters have already been assaulted with the political rumblings from the candidates seeking national office. Now, we have Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli campaigning for the Governors' spot here in Virginia.

With his announcement to run on the GOP ticket for the states' highest office, he is going against 60 years of history by campaigning while still holding down the position of the state's top lawyer. A staunch Conservative, Cuccinelli is the darling of the Tea Party movement.

He has attended a number of their events, and has always been in the spotlight. When asked about his remaining in his present office and campaigning for Governor at the same time, Cuccinelli has firmly stated that he would remain in office, "until the last day of my term."

Those opposed to Cuccinelli campaigning while holding down the job of Attorney General cite the fact that with fund raisers, attending political events and campaigning, he is taking away from his primary function as the top lawyer.

They point out that he has been entrusted with being the Commonwealth's chief attorney and defending the laws and interests of the State of Virginia, as well as the voters themselves. Instead, he has tainted that office.

Voters in Virginia and particularly in Henrico County will have a long campaign period to deal with. And voters can't dismiss Lt. Governor, Bill Bolling. Governor McDonnell has already given Bolling his blessing, setting the stage for some interesting in-fighting to come.
