Is Congress Murdering the 99er Nation by Neglect? "You Betcha"

Is Congress murdering the 99ers by neglecting to add a Tier 5 in the past 8 months? The undeniable answer is “You Betcha” - as Sarah Palin would say.

By legal definition, murder requires either intent or neglect of lawful duty. Careless disregard for human life also meets the legal definition of murder in America. Though the legal definitions mentioned here are not exhaustive, so far, I'd say Washington is GUILTY!

After months of petitions, fax attacks, letters, phone calls emails, marches, rallies, media coverage on 5 major networks, countless suicides and a few arrests - Congress is still not listening to the American people on the Tier 5 issue.

There is a great deal of talk out there these days about the wishes of the American people, but there isn’t a single person in Washington who gives a damn about the wishes of the American people who are not rich.

If that were not the case, Congress would do something about the fact that over 50 million Americans this year alone have had trouble just putting food on the table. I do not hear any Tea Party flunky talking about that nor do I hear Mitch McConnell or Boehner discussing how this is a priority with the GOP.

In my recent article, Credit Score the New “Mark of the Beast”,  I discussed how unemployment and the Washington/Wall Street created recession has hurt the credit ratings of millions of jobless Americans - making it nearly impossible to land the most menial job.

Several 99ers forwarded that article to (who else) Mr. Ed Schultz of MSNBC yesterday and today - Ed’s show opening commentary blasted this very practice by employers. [See video below] See Ed is still doing everything he possibly can to help the 99ers. Ed Schultz is the real deal - a true man of his word and one of the very few in the media who even “gets it!”

Since Tiers 3 & 4 began running out in January this year, the rolls of the UI exhaustees have grown to more than 5 million Americans. In that time, 5 bills have been brought before the Halls of Congress in an effort to extend UI benefits but ONLY by extending the DATES for which to file for UI and NOT additional UI benefits.

This has confused most Americans, many members of Congress and most of the media to boot. It has not exactly confused NELP (National Employment Law Project - a supposed advocacy group for the unemployed) nor has it bewildered the AFL-CIO but no matter how the 99ers try to court the assistance of those 2 huge lobbying groups in Washington - the 99er Nation gets NOTHING but empty promises from both groups. When it comes to our Tier 5 to Survive - both NELP and the AFL-CIO are as worthless and uncaring as Congress.

If Sarah Palin really cares about anyone but her self - why doesn’t she donate even one dime of her wealth to help Americans in poverty? Is she waiting for us to use our “2nd Amendment Rights” to fend for our selves? Well, most 99ers have had to pawn or sell off our guns for food long ago.

The fact is that next week the Congress will be on yet another paid vacation, likely without even considering S3706 (Tier 5) or even extending the UI filing dates - set to expire November 30th. I mean what is the urgency after all? What is another 2 million plus added to the rolls of the jobless without UI benefits after all? I mean they have already ignored 5 million Americans in this exact situation for over 8 months now. What harm could possibly come from adding another few million to the bunch?

So, Is Congress Murdering the 99er Nation by Neglect? “You Betcha” they are and they do not give a damn about hurting poor jobless Americans. Washington is blatantly guilty of committing the most callous Social Holocaust in history!

May God Bless America, save Her and Her impoverished population from the devils in Washington and from those wealthy contributors who paid for those offices.

The Statue of Liberty should now aptly read: Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...so we can neglect and force them to starve like we do to America’s own poor......

(The entire clip is GREAT but the Credit issue is mentioned at 4:55 into this clip)

Well, I did my part today in the fax campaign, I got the letter sent to both my Senators and my Congresscritter. Then I made voice calls to all three. Then I wrote about the 99ers in my blog, and got a friend to send that to the Twitter account for that campaign.

But I can't help a certain feeling that we're being ignored again, or rather, still.

As much as I hate to kill off any hope - I do agree with you that the 99ers are not even part of the conversation in Washington! Sad and disgusting!

The best quote I saw today came from House Democratic Chairman John Larsen who was trying to explain why the Dems got their asses kicked in this election:

"We had a Roosevelt moment and responded like Hoover"

Ed Schultz and his guest are right - OBAMA NEEDS TO SUPPORT PROGRESSIVES INSTEAD OF BENDING OVER FOR REPUBLICANS. He needs to LEAD LIKE ROOSEVELT DID.

Okay??? This has gone beyond these kinds of sentiments. So what do you think the next step will be? Turn to your local communities, because nobody else cares.

Congress and policymakers collecting hefty salaries from think tanks are indeed enacting a policy of "extermination by destitution" against all of America's poor; and this has a technical name: Benign Neglect. Only, there's NOTHING "benign" about it.

  • Unemployed 1207 1 year ago

Maybe what we need to get the attention of Washington is to let the UI extensions lapse and bring the number of penniless unemployed reach the near 10 million mark.

If our elected officials won't do the job they were hired to do because it's the right thing, maybe public embarrassment in front of the world will do it.

  • Simplydone 1 year ago

I don't think you get it...if there were 50 million, it would not matter. The days of the Democrats being FOR the poor folks are long gone! They are now the elites, with plenty of money, they are only interested in voting for things that gain them more power, and more power. After all, once you are filthy rich on the backs of the American people, what's left but to become as powerful as possible. Charlie Wrangel laughed at the charges against him, thinking he was exempt from the law, that HE HIMSELF was the head of!! I didn't see him smiling yesterday though. When he realized his majestic "power" wasn't going to save him, then he began to whine and snivel about "not being properly represented". BOO HOO! And as far as it being Sara Palin's place to give us her money...how about the rest of the rich in Washington, INCLUDING Democrats???? Harry Reid has lots of dough, so does Pelosi and the other liberals. Why is it just a rich Republican that should pay us? Does that sound fair? Would it be o.k. for JUST the unemployed Republicans families to starve, waiting for these idiots to pass a tier 5. the fact is, there is little difference in the 2 parties, one is extreme left and the other is extreme right, but don't kid yourself...they are ALL rich and very, very drunk with power!

  • What? 1 year ago

Being abandoned by NELP and the union groups is an amazing part oft argument, since these groups seem to think that if people are unemployed for longer than a certain time period they no longer deserve their support. A new asterisk marked motto for these groups could be "We support the unemployed!* (*but only until the unemployed hit the maximum weeks of benefits that we think is politically advantageous for us)."

The unemployment rate inched down again in MI, people are falling off and stopped certifying giving the illusion that things are better! All the states need to allow people to keep certifying their job search in case of retroactive benefits and/or especially to at least allow the true rate of unemployment to be shown, this is a complete outrage!!!!! While watching MSNBC last night, I noticed unemployment came up on almost every show, one rep interviewed said that maybe the bush tax's should be extended for exchange of unemployment benefits (thats not an exact quote but its close)! I think theyve had their 10 years or 520 weeks worth of tax breaks worth 700 billion, now its our turn to have something, They had enough weeks of tax breaks!!!!!! Rachel showed the deficit under pub vs dem since carter, all I could say is HOW and WOW, do these idiots keep getting back in Washington?????????????????????????

  • Cindy1959 1 year ago

Dont we have the right to make citizens arrests? When do we start excersizing this? 50 million + making arrests. Who wants who? Pick your politician! They are murderers of senior citizens and children. The common man would be thrown in jail. When did these guys rise above the law and GOD?

  • Cindy 1 year ago

I am completely disgusted with the likes of NELP and the unions ignoring the 99ers like Congress does. The heartless bastards in this country just continues to grow. Screw your neighbor should be the new motto in the United States. Every time I receive one of their petitions asking me to sign and help the 2.5 million that will expire their UI in November, I delete it. I've been fighting for a tier 5 for almost a year! These 2.5 million wouldn't have gotten the weeks they have if it wasn't for the 99ers fighting constantly for benefits to survive and paving the way for them. Many of them sit back and just wait for the next tier of checks to come to them and don't even bother fighting for themselves let alone try and help the 99ers get a tier 5. Ignorance is bliss, because if a Tier 5 is passed they also benefit from it. I guess they figure they have NELP and the unions to help them get their money so the 99ers can all go to hell. Well....on that note, I no longer will fight like I did to get 4213 passed even though I got shit from it. The 99ers continue to be left out of everything that has to do with unemployment, and it's going to be just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.

Maybe NELP or the unions would like to sit our children down and explain to them why there will be no Thanksgiving dinner on the table next week, or why there will be no Santa Clause leaving presents under the tree or better yet, why we don't have a tree and have to live in our car (if it hasn't been repossessed yet). Heartless bastards is all I can say. I truly believe what goes around comes around and these people that refuse to help their fellow Americans survive, will get their payback in the future. Maybe a few of those greedy GOPigs will choke on their turkey this Thanksgiving. I have NO respect for anyone that refuses to help another American in any way they can. It's disgusting!

  • CIndy 1 year ago

Another thought.....If you owned a dog or cat, and refused to buy it food...let it live in unhealthy conditions such as a tent in the middle of winter or storm season you would be arrested for Animal Cruelty!! Yet, Congress can treat human beings like this and nothing is done about it.

How sad is this country when an animal has more rights and is better taken care of then a human being? Congress, NELP and anyone else that is abusing the American people with their neglect should be arrested and fined just like someone abusing an animal is. As the person above said, since when did they become better then any other living being or above GOD??????

Good point Cindy, I bet if I told Washington a hamster was short on food, they would send out benefits, stat! They show more compassion for a pet rock! Maybe we should say we have pet rocks and their getting cold cause the heat got turned off! Buncha ignorant bass-terds would probably send the rocks "BAILOUTS", hello its the "UNEMPLOYED STUPID" Millions and millions of personal heartbreaking stories of 99er's and close to nothing from mainstream media, let alone Washington!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to hear the clip from Ed Schultz referencing the subject of your last post, but the box is blank to listen to it. Was it on his TV show or on his radio show? If it was on his TV show, which I missed yesterday, I will check out on MSNBC.com. Thanks for all of the great articles Donalee. I'm really sorry about your plight and all of the other 99er stories I'm always reading. I sure hope we get a Tier 5 before it's too late.

I just got off the phone with some young chickie in Senator Durbin's Washington office - after it took me hours to get through to them, so good job everyone on keeping their call volumes high. The Senator is very aware of the dire need the long-term unemployed are facing and is why he talks about us every chance he gets, and why he co-sponsored S3706 - which by the way is still in committee and cannot be voted on by the full Senate until it gets to the floor. Her suggestion was to contact the finance committee and pester them about it (my word, not hers). She stayed calm and had a nice phone voice, but kept talking over me instead of actually listening to my concerns or trying to answer my questions - and in fact, she hung up on me! I did specifically ask her if they would like all of us to commit suicide so they didn't have to deal with us anymore and she just kept right on talking about everything the good Senator was doing for us.

Oh, and President Obama is doing everything he possibly can to help our situation.

Donalee, on a personal note - do you get my Facebook updates? I honestly don't know how to use the dang thing and am never sure if what I say is ever seen by the folks I'm hooked up with.

Anybody know anything new? I found this (Below):

    http://twitter.com/ArthurDelaneyHP

3 Month-(12 Weeks) (Sent copy to Ed 11/17/10)

House Democrats Push For 3-Month Reathorization Of Unemployment

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/17/house-democrats-push-for-_n_784...

Excerpts from an online article: Arthur Delaney
A three-month extension would avert a grim holiday season, but it might instead make for a sad March. Incoming House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is not likely to lead his caucus in voting for another reauthorization. Advocates for the unemployed want the benefits reauthorized for a full year, which the Economic Policy Institute estimates would cost $65 billion.
A shorter extension "gets you right into [the next Congress] so the Republicans can kill it," Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) told HuffPost. "Three months is nice, but you think the recession's ending in three months?"

Either way, the Senate is the chokepoint. McDermott previously told HuffPost he thought the House would have no trouble reauthorizing the unemployment benefits but that the "Senate has too many Republican Grinches." Indeed, Democrats in the Senate have not yet scheduled a vote on unemployment benefits, meaning a brief lapse is almost certain come December.

I didn;t know about what you just posted, the only other news I've personally heard is that the repubs rescheduled the dinner invite from the prez, ironically the same day the other tiers are scheduled to expire! I think they are buying time, because they secretly know its all about jobs and unemployment and are going to cry foul on the dems for not addressing it in time!!!!!!

  • Y - N. CA - E.B. 1 year ago

Anyway, I went ahead and emailed (thru Congress.org) :CC: President Barack Obama, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Barbra Boxer, and Congressman George Miller CC:Senator Jack Reed(D-RI), Senator Robert Casey(D-PA), Senator Jim McDermott(D-PA), Senator Debbie Stabenow(D-MI)

On giving additional weeks to people who have already exhausted their federal benefits.

Explaining that 3-Months (12 weeks) is not enough since jobs are not fruitful and there's discrimination (Like credit history/score, age, "being considered "over-qualified", being long-term unemployed, and etc.)

I made reference to the articles below of where I got my info.
1st Article -- No Plans In Senate For A Vote On Unemployment Benefits -- Updated: 11-17-10 04:51 PM
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/17/still-no-plan-on-unemploy_n_784...

2nd Article -- House Democrats Push For 3-Month Reauthorization Of Unemployment -- Updated: 11-17-10 05:28 PM
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/17/house-democrats-push-for-_n_784...

I hope it's not just 3-Month (or not at all). In the second article, it stated that " Advocates for the unemployed want the benefits reauthorized for a full year, which the Economic Policy Institute estimates would cost $65 billion. " Oh boy we'll see.....

I think the unemployed should be calling for extended benefits for ALL (including 99ers) until the Unemployment Rate decreases to a certain percentage (5-7% based on historical precedent--whatever they did before re extended unemployment). This would put pressure on congress to create jobs. This is the ONLY way continuation of the tax cuts for the richest should be allowed to continue. Otherwise, let all the tax cuts expire, as Ed Schultz says, but still extend unemployment benefits for all. This way the families and friends of the unemployed will at least have their increased taxes being used to solve the unemployment problem, instead of unemployment being a problem that individuals, their families and friends have to solve alone.

    A. The ""news" that Eva Longoria (sp?) is gettintg divorced?

    B. ANY mention of ANYTHING to do with the #99ers/Nintey-Niners?

    C. Some guy (IN ANOTHER COUNTRY) named Harry deciding to give his girlfriend of 8-10 years (accounts vary) his mother's ring?

Let's not forget the Obama is a big part of this "murdering of 99ers" as well. He has blood on his hands from every 99er suicide because he's done nothing. He's done less than nothing - he made a point to never even mention us, not even in his "town hall meeting" re unemployment. And when he made the deal with the Repugs for tax cuts for the rich in trade for helping the "regular" unemployed did he ever mention us or fight for us in the least? No.

Obama - who I voted for - has been a huge disappointment and was apparently born without a spine. Let's hope we can get someone else to run for the Democrats in 2012. And vote out all incumbents!
