Everyday there seem's to be a new trend in just about everything. What we drink is no different and now the trend is caffeinated water. The caffeine is supposed to be all natural and derived from the coffee bean according to one company. One brand called Avitae claims that one of their original product's contains 45 mg of caffeine or the equivalent of drinking a diet soda. Avitae 90 contains double the caffeine as their original which is the equivalent of drinking a cup of coffee. Now that might be appealing to some who don't drink enough water but yet still want their daily caffeine fix. However, everyone know's that doctors encourage people to drink plenty of water. As it helps to flush the body of toxins and it helps to curb cravings. However, caffeine is considered a diuretic and it can cause dehydration. This can especially happen if a person is exercising, outside in the heat or they have been sick. Consuming to much caffeine in a day can be harmful and especially in young kids. Doctor's recommend consuming roughly no more than 500 mg's of caffeine a day. Which roughly equals eleven bottles of the 45 mg bottle of caffeinated water. Some side effects of drinking to much caffeine are high blood pressure, insomnia and nervousness. The overall best alternative to caffeinated water is to just drink plain water.
