Is Brit Martin Murray going to ‘shock the world’ against Sergio Martinez?

Unbeaten British contender Martin Murray is extremely confident he’ll take The Ring and WBC middleweight titles from boxing powerhouse Sergio Martinez on April 27 in Buenos Aires.

“I’m buzzing that the fight is just a few weeks away. I’m getting more confident the closer it gets and I can’t wait to go over there and shock the world,” said Murray, 30, who last vacated the squared circle in November with a sixth round TKO victory over Venezuelan Jorge Navarro. “Regardless of his age, I know I’ve got the style to beat him. Martinez is a great fighter. But, I’m better and I’ll prove this when we fight.”

Meanwhile, Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KOs), a menacing southpaw who has long been actively involved in domestic violence and anti-bullying causes, most recently fought on September 15 when he defeated Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. by a unanimous decision to capture the WBC belt at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Martinez, the 2010 “Fighter of the Year” who is currently ranked by Ring Magazine as the fourth preeminent pound-for-pound pugilist in the world, sustained a partially torn meniscus in his right knee and a broken left hand while utterly outclassing the 27-year-old Chavez (46-1-1-1, 32 KOs) for 11 rounds.

Despite graying and turning 38, absolutely nothing indicates that Martinez is diminishing as a prizefighter.

Provided the native Argentinean, who has also dabbled professionally as a cyclist and soccer player and only began throwing fists at the late age of 20, is entirely healed, Martinez will overcome the dangerous Murray (25-0-1, 11 KOs) within nine violent rounds.

“(Sergio) Martinez is a great fighter” and he’ll again “prove this when” battering the mouthy bloke in The South American Paris next month.
