IRS makes free tax preparation less taxing

Today, in the interest of efficiency and helping taxpayers meet their yearly filing obligations, the Internal Revenue Service has launched a tool at their website that will direct taxpayers to fast and free tax preparation services in their neighborhood.

To start, visit the following link: http://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/

On this page, you will enter your zip code and select the desired distance from your zip code to a VITA/TCE location within a 5 to 100 mile radius.

When done, you will be given the names, address, operation dates, hours, languages available, and whether an appointment is required.  There is also an option to obtain directions, if needed.

The new tool, available 24 hours a day on IRS.gov, makes it easier than ever for qualified individuals whose incomes are under 50,000 to find free help through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
