On March 24th, Ironman Triathlon World Champion Mark Allen will be the keynote speaker at the annual TRI-MANIA Summit and Expo held at Georgetown Prep in North Bethesda, MD. TRI-MANIA (formerly known as Multisport World Conference and Expo) has become a highly anticipated, highly attended free event for local triathletes. And, having Allen as the keynote speaker only makes it more interesting!
In 1989, Allen took the Hawaii Ironman World Championship title from Dave Scott (last year’s keynote speaker) by just under a minute. Many considered that race to be one of the greatest in triathlons history. Allen then went on to earn a total of six Ironman titles in six attempts. At age 37, he became the oldest champion of the Ironman event to date. Allen has been named “Triathlete of the Year” six times, after his retirement in 1996, he was called “The World’s Fittest Man” by Outside magazine, and in November of 2012, he was named “The Greatest Endurance Athlete of all Time” by ESPN.
The event, produced by Sun Multisport Events, is the designed to educate, equip, and excite triathletes for the upcoming season. The event features seminars, clinic and workshops led by top coaches and experts, in addition to competitive events and a large and diverse vendor expo. TRI-MANIA is welcoming to both beginners and elites in the sport of triathlon, providing them with high level access to the region’s premier multisport specialists and experts. Thousands of athletes are expected to attend this year’s event with over 7,000 expected in the three venues of NYC, Boston and DC.
