A pure hat trick by Alex Toupal spoiled Senior Night for the St. Louis Park Orioles as they were shut out by the Irondale Knights 7-0 Friday at The Rec Center.
Toupal got Irondale on the board 1:04 into the game as she scored on a rebound. Her second goal came on a pass from Sena Hanson and she got the hat trick on a power play goal with one minute remaining in the firat period. The Knights had 22 shots on goal in the period as Oriole goalie Peyton Stafne had several outstanding saves.
The Knights second period spotlight shine on Sena Hanson who saw the net twice. Her first goal came on an assist from Greta Nundahl and her second goal came from the left side of the St. Louis Park net.
Irondale was not finished in the scoring department, thanks to a couple of third period goals from Samantha Donovan. The first came on a power play goal and the second rolled into the net past Stafne.
Irondale outshot St. Louis Park 38-11. It was also the fifth shutout of the season for Knight goalie Amanda Pate.
Oriole seniors Hannah Brodersen, Sophia Kieffer and Megan Berens were honored before the game.
The Knights improve their record to 12-7 and wrap up the regular season Monday, Jan. 28 against Chisago Lakes at the Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine. The Orioles fall to 3-17-2 and head down Highway 7 on Tuesday, Jan. 29 for a 5 PM game with the Hutchinson Tigers at Burich Arena.
