The 2013 high school football regular season wraps up Wednesday night as the Irondale Knights head to St. Louis Park to face the Orioles.
It's been a rough maiden voyage for Oriole head coach Ben Wolfe as they head into their final North Suburban conference game 0-7. Last week, St. Louis Park got steamrolled by the Spring Lake Park Panthers 52-0. They are one of two 0-7 teams in Section 3AAAAA. The other is Bloomington Kennedy. Both teams will play in the new Metro West Conference next season. The key to this game will be to find their offensive rhythm and find ways to put the ball in the end zone. Quarterback Quinn Livdahl will have to have and outstanding game and the defense has to step up and cut down on mistakes.
As for the Knights, they got off to a solid 4-1 start before losing two games in a row to Benilde-St. Margaret's and Cooper. This is a team capable of scoring points since they scored more than 20 in six of their first seven games. Jared Brenny quarterbacks Irondale. He has thrown for only two touchdowns in his last three games but he's also a ground threat, rushing for 63 yards last week against Cooper. His top target is Matt Jarrett, who has scored five touchdowns.
The player that St. Louis Park needs to focus their defense on is running back Victor James. He has four games of more than 100 yards, including 207 against Cooper. They'll have to contain him or else he'll be headed toward Wooddale Ave.
Game time is 7 PM. Dress warm. It's going to be a chilly Wednesday night.
