Irondale Knights end 2012 with shutout of SLP Orioles

Samantha Donovan ended 2012 on a high note by scoring a pure hat trick to lead the Irondale Knights to an 11-0 shutout of the St. Louis Park Orioles in a New Years Eve matinee Monday at the Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine.

The Knights armor shined in the first period when Alex Toupal scored from the right point. Sena Hanson rounded out the first period scoring after she got a pass from Maddie Hentges, went through two Oriole defenders and put the puck past goalie Peyton Stafne.

Irondale put the game away in the second period with a six goal burst, including a pure hat trick from Donovan. Her first goal came from the left point 1:15 into the period, the second on a pass from Toupal and the third on passes from Mari Erickson and Jessica Mularie. Hanson, Megan Pieper and India Charles also tallied for the Knights.

Irondale added three goals to their ledger in the third period. Britta Nundahl scored an unassisted goal on a rebound. Toupal scored her second goal of the game after she found an opening on Stafne's left and Erickson concluded the scoring on an assist from Hentges.

Irondale outshot St. Louis Park 41-4.

The Knights improved their record to 9-6 and will host the Centennial Cougars Thursday, Jan. 3 at the Schwan's Super Rink. The Orioles fell to 2-11-1 will also be in action on the Jan. 3 as they host the Princeton Tigers in a 6:30 game at The Rec Center.
