Yes! You read that right. U.S. military is bringing to life a real ‘Iron Man’ suit, a Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit, that will allow the wearer to have night vision, enhanced strength, and protection from gunfire. The wearer would be able to walk through a stream of bullets!
The military suits that are being developed would have a computer within the suit that would instantly respond to certain situations and allow the user enhanced awareness. According to the press release, the suit use liquid armor, which has the ability to transform from a “liquid to solid in milliseconds when a magnetic field or electrical current is applied.” The main goal of the suit is full-body protection, allowing the user to literally walk through a stream of bullets.
The computer, a panel that rests against the skin would detect and respond to the body’s core temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, and hydration levels. The suit would act as life support as well, such as heart, air, and oxygen.
If that wasn’t cool enough, Elon Musk created a lab based on the movie using a Leap Motion controller, an Oculus Rift, and a projector. Using a variety of virtual reality and gesture-sensing tools, Musk has set up a system that allows himself and his engineers to design and manipulate models of rocket parts using just their hands, just like JARVIS in Iron Man. So with these two breakthroughs, it could be a big step forward for defense technology. Next the military need to figure out how to shoot bullets from their gloves.
