Sony has announced that they will soon be releasing Iron Man: Rise of Technovore, an all-new anime feature film, on both Blu-ray and DVD on April 16, 2013. The upcoming film will feature an original story written by Brandon Auman that will have Iron Man on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D. as he travels the globe in search of Ezekiel Stane, inventor of the lethal new technology known as Technovore.
The film will be directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki and will once again be a produced by Madhouse in collaboration with Marvel, much like the 12-part Iron Man anime adaptation we saw back in 2011. This time around, fans can expect to see a number of Marvel characters given the anime treatment as War Machine, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and The Punisher are all expected to make appearances in the upcoming film.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Billionaire Tony Stark, in his Iron Man armor, prevents an attack from a mysterious new foe, but innocent bystanders are killed, including his best friend War Machine, Lt. Colonel James Rhodes. Detained for questioning by S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Man escapes, determined to find the mastermind behind the attack. Pursued by Black Widow and Hawkeye, Iron Man enlists the help of the ruthless vigilante The Punisher. But can the Armored Avenger handle what he finds when he catches the person responsible and is forced to face his deadliest weapon, a biotechnology called Technovore that could wipe out all life on the planet?
