On Sunday, June 15 at 5 p.m., Iron City Birmingham (513 22nd Street South, Birmingham) will host a special Father's Day beer dinner with Trim Tab Brewing Company to benefit the Black Warrior Riverkeeper.

If you are looking for a Father's Day gift for the dad who has everything, Iron City Birmingham has a pretty good option for you with this family-style beer dinner. With an emphasis on both local and fresh ingredients, Chef William Rogers has prepared the following four course menu that has been paired with fine beers from Trim Tab Brewing Company:

  • First Course: Roasted Bone Marrow Panzanella Salad - Terra Preta Farms baby mizuna, compressed watermelon, Snow's Bend shaved radish, pistachio crusted goat cheese, toasted sunflower seeds, sweet cornbread croutons, and Owls Hollow Farm cucumber basil vinaigrette. Paired with Trim Tab Nelson Sauvin IPA
  • Second Course: Sustainably Raised Loch Duart Salmon Tartar - sesame & soy marinated chopped salmon, fresh ginger & lemongrass edamame purée, chai mai dusted fried wonton strips, with a sweet chili wasabi glaze. Paired with Trim Tab Black IPA
  • Third Course: Blackened Alabama Gulf Coast Amberjack - McEwen & Sons chorizo cheese grits, local grape tomatoes, haricot verts blue crab salsa verde, and queso fresco. Paired with Trim Tab ESB
  • Fourth Course: Fresh Owls Hollow Farm strawberries, whipped Stone Hollow goat cheese cream, sweet buttermilk biscuit, fresh local mint with an aged balsamic glaze. Paired with Trim Tab Raspberry Berliner Weisse

Although that menu sounds quite delicious, the best part of this meal is the fact that it will help raise funds and awareness for the Black Warrior Riverkeeper. The mission of the Black Warrior Riverkeeper is to promote clean water for drinking, swimming, watersports, fishing, and wildlife habitat throughout the Black Warrior River watershed. The Black Warrior River serves as a major source of drinking water for cities such as Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Cullman, Oneonta, and Jasper; but it sadly remains one of Alabama's most endangered rivers. Currently, the largest threat to the river is the proposed Shepherd Bend Mine, a coal mine that would discharge pollutants in unprecedented proximity to the Birmingham Water Works Board’s Mulberry Fork intake. Black Warrior Riverkeeper representatives will be special guests at this event to provide attendees with information on issues concerning the river and what we all can do to help.

Cost of this dinner is $67.50 per person, and that ticket price includes fees and gratuity. Seating for this beer dinner is extremely limited, and you can arrange your tickets by clicking here. A portion of the proceeds from this beer dinner will go to benefit the Black Warrior Riverkeeper.

By enjoying a great meal, you get to celebrate your pops and support the preservation of our natural resources. You really cannot go wrong here. Get those tickets soon before this beer dinner sells out. Prost!
