Irish QB to transfer: Reports indicate Gunner Kiel is leaving Notre Dame

Reports out on March 8 indicate that Gunner Kiel plans to transfer away from Notre Dame. ESPN shares the news that the Irish QB plans to transfer elsewhere, though neither the college or Kiel's family have commented yet.

Kiel was asked about the possibility of a transfer in January, and at the time he said it hadn't crossed his mind. He said that he was more focused on the season and school than on the possibility of a change. Gunner added that there were many things that could happen to open up the doors to playing time for him, and he planned to just be patient and wait his turn. Gunner Kiel redshirted last season.

Heading into preparations for next season, it would seem Gunner Kiel was positioned behind Everett Golson for Notre Dame, and it appears the prospect of having to continue to wait for playing time has led the Irish QB to consider transfer options. He has drawn criticism in the past for how he handled going with Notre Dame rather than Indiana or LSU. He has since admitted he didn't handle the recruiting process well.

Where will Gunner Kiel go next? That much is still under wraps at this point. What do you think of reports that the Irish QB will transfer rather than stick it out at Notre Dame?
