Irish get four-star pledge

Another week, and another big recruiting coup for Notre Dame on Wednesday as four-star running back Tarean Folston committed to the Irish. Folston visited Notre Dame way back in October, but was seen as somewhat of a long shot at that point. Interest picked up, however, as the Fighting Irish kept winning until Folston decided South Bend would be his home for the next few years.

Folston is listed as a running back, but has the potential to play other positions. With what looks like a logjam at running back next year with George Atkinson III, Amir Carlisle, Cam McDaniel, William Mahone, and fellow recruit Greg Bryant all in the mix, Folston may find a spot somewhere else.

That doesn't lessen the impact he has on this class. Rivals.com and Scout.com both list Folston as a four-star recruit. Rivals has him ranked as the 13th best running back and 183rd best player overall. Scout has him as the 21st best running back and the 177th best player overall. This past season at Cocoa High School in Cocoa, FL Folston rushed for 1,722 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught two touchdowns.

Folston becomes the 22nd commitment for the Irish for 2013 and the second running back. He chose Notre Dame over offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Oregon, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Virginia Tech among many others.
