The St. Patrick's Day Parade, in Dublin, Ireland, is, to many people of Irish descent, the ultimate event. The Purdue 'All American' Marching Band has been selected to perform in the 2013 edition of the parade. 9 Irish Brothers traditional Irish pubs in West Lafayette and Lafayette are honoring the band with a special 'send-off' party on Sunday, March 3rd, at both locations. The party starts at 11AM, and continues to nearly midnight. 10% of all money from bar tabs will go to the band's general travel fund. There will also be appearances by a portion of the band's performing units throughout the day.
It may seem ironic that a band with 'All-American' in it's title would be selected to perform at an event so steeped in foreign culture, but the exact opposite is true. The band's history is rich with international and high-profile performances, including Beijing, China, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and multiple trips to South America. The band is also a recipient of the Sudler Trophy, the award for the best collegiate band in the country.
No stranger to awards, 9 Irish Brothers is a past winner of the 'Best Pint of Guinnes' in the United States. With these two sterling institutions, March 3rd seems to be the day to celebrate the best the country has to offer of music, food, and drink.
