Irina Rodnina and Vladislav Tretiak got the privilege to light the Olympic cauldron at the Sochi Winter Olympics on Friday night. The two Olympians jogged side by side from the stadium to the Olympic cauldron outside officially kicking off the 2014 Winter Games. The moment had the fans around the world cheering as it was the last step before the sporting competitions could begin.

The dramatic moment when the Olympic torch was carried into the Olympic stadium took the breath away from any Olympic fan. Carried by Four-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova who carried in the Olympic torch before passing it off to other notable Russian athletes gave a sense of closure of the ceremony. Very dramatic and full of pride, the final few minutes of the ceremony had everyone impressed.

Once the Olympic cauldron was lit, the sky was bright as day. The moment set off a spur of fireworks from the Olympic Village that was an incredible scene. Offering fireworks about the stadium, cauldron and around the village, it was bright and beautiful and gave everyone who was in the region, whether watching the show or not, a notice that the Olympic Games had officially begun.
