Mir Hossein Mousavi flashes Victory Sign (AP)
Iranian Security Agents raided the headquarters of the opposition party, created and led by Mr. Mahdi Karroubi, on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. It comes amid hardliner cleric and Revolutionary Guards commander demands for the arrests of the three primary leaders of the Opposition movement (Mahdi Karroubi, Mir Hossein Mousavi, and Mohamad Khatami). Although numerous aides have been arrested by the agents, the three primary leaders have not been arrested as doing so could spark a re-eruption of protests across the country. A second raid was executed by Iranian Security Agents on the private office of Mr. Karroubi, who was present at the time of the raid. Again, Karroubi aides at this location were also arrested and carried away. Opposition members believe that the arrests are intended to decapitate the party’s efforts to investigate and publicly report allegations of abuses, including cases of rape, against detained protestors. A third opposition office, staffed by party members who were tasked with receiving reports of abuse by recently released detainees, was also a subject of the well coordinated and simultaneous raids. The staffers were arrested and the office was sealed. In fact, all three offices were sealed. The agents took electronic devices, CD’s, and documents related to reports of government abuses by recently released protestors. Unidentified members of the opposition state that the raids were geared more towards the collection and secreting away of abuse evidence. The publicized accusations of torture and raping of detained protestors has been a tremendous embarrassment to the ruling Mullahs and their puppet political leaders within the Islamic Republic’s leadership. The goals of the Iranian government, according to western analysts, seem to be the complete shutdown and silencing of the opposition party. They stop short of arresting the three key leaders in order to avoid a re-eruption of protests and to leave them open to attacks by supporters while their supporters are restrained in prison. All analysts agree that the seizure of electronic and hardcopy files that contain the statements and names of complainants will most assuredly result in the re-arrest and continued torturing of those who have stepped forward to expose mistreatment of political prisoners by the Radically Islamic Theocracy of Iran.

Great article, very informative. Our population should be more aware of the threat from this part of the world.
Wake up American. This is where we're headed for if we don't stop socialist ideas from taking over our country. Do we really want to be arrested for differing opionions?
Honestly, these raids seem more and more like gestapo tactics. I have to agree that there is something being covered up and the Iranian Government is not trying to hide the fact that they are trying to cover something up. If there was nothing to hide, why arrest all these aides and secure all the reports?
Didn't Obama threaten to take on opponents during his speech last night? Sounds like he's taken a page from his old pal in Iran!

Gary, I agree 100%. I'd love to know what the current regime is trying to hide by arresting all of these individuals. It seems like we're watching the beginnings of another world war, but no one is proactive enough to stop it.

This is very true, and I fear that if something isn't done then we are all in a world of hurt.
