iPhone tips and useful settings

Just get an iPhone? Need some handy iPhone tips? Curious on which are the best iPhone settings? There are a lot of really neat things you can do with an iPhone and even ways you can save on battery life, which is great for those of us away from home for extended periods of time. Here are a few iPhone tips and tricks to help you get started:

iPhone tips:

  • Want to save on battery life? Turn off Bluetooth if you don't use any Bluetooth devices. If you work in an area with Wi-Fi, turn off 3G while at work, otherwise turn off Wi-Fi until you get home. More iPhone tips for saving battery life.
  • One of my favorite iPhone tips is the setting for the home button. You can set the iPhone to launch your Camera, Phone Favorites or iPod when you double press the home button by going into your setting, choosing general settings and then choosing home.
  • Want to shuffle the playlist you are currently listening to? Just shake the phone.
  • Do a lot of typing on the touch keyboard? You can double tap the space bar to produce a period and a space, which is great if you are writing a book in text messages. Need an accent mark on a letter? You can get at special letters by tapping and holding a letter.
  • You can make your iPhone look snazzy by setting a custom background. The iPhone Toolbox has a lot of great backgrounds at http://iphonetoolbox.com/dailywallpaper that you can save to your iPhone by tapping and holding the image in the Safari web browser.
  • A great iPhone tip for constant emailers is that you can delete an individual email message by swiping it horizontally in the list. This will bring up a Delete button to confirm the action.
  • Want to take a screenshot? Just hold down the home button and the sleep/wake button on the top of the iPhone at the same time.
  • Do you text a lot? You don't have to pay for texting. TextPlus is a must-have iPhone app that offers free texting.
  • You can get more out of the calculator by rotating the iPhone on its side, which puts the calculator in landscape mode and reveals some scientific functions.
  • This iPhone tip is great for those who surf the web a lot on their phone: touching the title bar at the top of the screen will always take you to the top of the page, which also lets you type in a new Google search or web address. You can also tap and hold a link to bring up the option to open in a new web page, which is great if you want to save your place while browsing.

  • At the end of a sentence? Tap the space key twice to get a period, a space and the caps lock turned on ready for your next key press.
  • You don't always need to type the apostrophe for common contractions. Just type "dont", "cant" or "wont" and watch the spell correct do the work for you.
  • Need something besides ".com"? Tap and hold the ".com" key on the keyboard variations like ".net" and ".org" will appear.
