With the holidays behind us, iPhone 6 release date rumors continue to hit the internet as some are suggesting the newest Apple smartphone could come as early as spring in 2014. The latest news arrives as there are also rumors of a new “large-size tablet” launch later in 2014 as well, and as shoppers have snatched up deals on the current generations of iPads and iPhones through Black Friday, Cyber Monday and other holiday sales.
According to DigiTimes on Dec. 23, sources from the “upstream supply chain” for Apple tablets and smartphones have revealed some potentially-exciting new info for those interested in obtaining the latest device models. The site reports a 12.9-inch sized tablet rumored for 2014 which would be targeted for the “educational market.” As for the new smartphones, the site reports:
“In addition to tablets, Apple is also rumored to be planning a larger size iPhone for May 2014, using a 20nm processor manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the sources noted.”
Other reports are suggesting the release date will happen in the second half of 2014, with recent news that Apple has partnered with China Mobile for a new deal. The China Mobile company is currently considered “the world’s biggest telco in terms of number of subscribers,” according to IBTimes in their report, and could help Apple tap into 760 million customers to add to their already large worldwide customer base.
Apple’s latest model of their smartphone is the iPhone 5S or the lower cost alternative, the iPhone 5C. Both models were among some retailers' holiday sales deals, offered for low prices with a gift card, or with a service provider contract plan. The same goes for the iPad and iPad Mini tablets, although newer models tended to not be offered on sale, whereas models from a year or more ago were a major part of various retailers’ sales deals.
As of this report, it’s unknown what exactly the new specs and size for the new smartphone might be. Some of the key features on the iPhone 5S included the fingerprint sensor for added security to the phone, as well as upgraded processor capabilities and newly-improved camera features. As per most iPhone or iPad rumors, nothing is official until it is announced from Apple to the masses.
