The iPhone 6 is coming sooner than expected, according to a May 11 report in ABC News. This iPhone 6 report refers to an article about iPhone 6 in a Taiwanese business newspaper that cites unidentified sources in Apple's supply-chain.
The iPhone 6 is going to be presented in August it appears, one month earlier than anticipated. In the past, Apple has released a new iPhone in June (three times), July (once), September (twice) and October (once). This report about the iPhone 6 introduction in August is surprising because this would be the first time Apple introduced the iPhone in August.
In September 2012 the iPhone 5 was released and the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c followed in September 2013. Prior to this report about an August iPhone 6 introduction, all indications were that Apple will release a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 sometime in September 2015.
But whether the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 debuts in August or September depends on the extent that Apple is going to differentiate the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model from what is expected to be a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 version. If the only difference between the two iPhone models is size, then Apple could release them at the same September event.
However, increasingly Apple observers are theorizing that Apple may be planning to distinguish the two iPhone 6 models by more than size. The 5.5-inch model may be the only iPhone 6 model to have the sapphire screen. Also, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model is expected to have the highest Apple Retina resolution so far.
The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model is also rumored to include Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, possibly under the Home button. NFC technology can be a vehicle for a mobile payment system. For example, instead of opening your wallet, removing a debit card and inserting it in the appropriate slot to pay for gasoline, you would only take out your iPhone and tap the Home button to make a payment.
If Apple does plan to pack the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 version with technology—putting this iPhone 6 model at the summit of the iPhone line—then it would make sense for Apple to introduce this iPhone 6 in September 2014, leaving the 4.7-inch model to be introduced in August. The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is expected to cost $100.00 more than the 4.7-inch model.
Both the iPhone 6 5.5-inch design and the iPhone 6 4.7-inch design are expected to include a faster A8 processor. Plus both will include an improved camera, in addition to being thinner.
