iPhone 5 spotted with metal backing, iPhone 4 shape

Buckle in, San Francisco, because the iPhone 5 rumor train has left the station and it is picking up speed quickly.

Last week, Apple released the latest update to their iOS software (iOS 4.3) for the iPad, GSM iPhone and the iPod touch. Developers poking around in the code discovered some references that seem to indicate that the next iPhone will be employing the same Apple A5 dual-core processor that’s found in the iPad 2.

Soon after, purported images of the iPhone 5 surfaced showing off a larger display and a thinner bezel.

Last night, 9to5Mac revealed some new information about the iPhone 5 coming straight from a source at Foxconn, the company that manufactures Apple’s iPhone, and the information seems to confirm the images as well as provide some new features for those eager for Apple’s next iPhone here in San Francisco and across the world.

According to the source, the iPhone 5 is going to have a similar shape akin to the iPhone 4. There is one notable change though. Apple has apparently ditched the glass backing of the phone and replaced it with a material similar to the original iPhone. (I actually have a friend who still uses his Silverback and loves it.)

Their source also indicates that the back won’t be curved but will in fact be a flat backing comprised of this unknown metal substance. The screen size is also said to be larger than on the iPhone 4, 4-inches perhaps.

So, a dual-score iPhone with a larger screen and a design that takes from the original iPhone?

How many of you in San Francisco and elsewhere would sign up for this?
