Microsoft is determined to remain competitive in the fast growing mobile market. Microsoft goes up against Apple in a move to boost Windows mobile device sales. What better way to challenge Apple than to offer customers money for their used iPhones and iPads and then replace them with new Microsoft products?

As reported by TechCrunch Friday, (Sept. 27) Microsoft’s newly expanded trade-in program lets Apple device owners trade in their “gently used” old devices. An old iPhone 4S or 5 can now be traded in for at minimum, a $200 Microsoft Store gift card. Used iPads are also being accepted for the trade in program, including iPad 2, 3 and 4.

Strategically planned, not too long after Apple’s release of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Microsoft attempts to persuade consumers to Windows devices. Microsoft suggests that a Nokia Lumia phone is an alternative upgrade choice over the a iPhone 5S or 5C. Redeemed money from an iPad trade in may interest users into a Windows Surface tablet. “Looking to upgrade your tablet? Check out the Surface RT or Surface Pro,” reads the official Microsoft store Website.

New Windows products are coming to the Microsoft store soon, such as the rumored Nokia 929 smartphone, the successor of the popular Nokia 928. Earlier this week, Microsoft began accepting pre-orders for its upcoming Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets, expected to hit stores October 22.

The software maker recently acquired Nokia’s cell phone business for $7 billion to accelerate its mobile growth. Microsoft is going after a larger piece of the mobile market share and isn't shy about taking jabs at Apple’s brand loyal consumers.
