The most current iOS available for your iPad is version 6.1.2, and is available for downloading.
According to one of Apple’s representatives, updating your iPad to iOS 6.1.2 will fix a bug related to “Exchange Calendar,” which causes an increase in network activity, and a reduction in your iPad’s battery life.
Managing your updates is easier, now, than when the iPad was first introduced. In the past, you had to update and sync to your computer. Now, when you turn on your iPad, a window will appear, telling you that a new iOS is available and ready to download.
If you have disregarded the notice, and you see a number in a red circle, in the right corner of your “Settings” icon, you probably need to update your iPad to the latest iOS.
To complete the update, either follow the prompts in the notification window, or tap the “Settings,” icon on your iPad desktop. Then tap “General,” “Software Update,” and “Install Now” as you move from screen to screen. Then follow the prompts. It’s as easy as that. (You will need a WiFi connection to complete this update.)
Some users might decide to bypass this notification, and choose to update at a later time. This is fine, as long as you eventually update to the current iOS. Choosing not to update at all can cause a host of issues later on.
Keeping your iPad updated with the most recent operating software can help prevent glitches in apps you are running, and also help prevent your iPad from crashing.
Friends and family never update any of their devices or software, and as a result, their devices/software eventually malfunction. This can mean hours of downloading and updating missing/needed software to get their iPads, applications, etc. working properly again.
To check which software you are currently running on your iPad:
1. tap Settings on your iPad
2. tap General
3. tap – About – Scroll down to – Version; this should read 6.1.2; if your OS is 6.1.1 or below, it’s time to update
