The Iowa and Penn State wrestling programs will still meet this season despite the Big Ten Conference not scheduling the two teams to a league dual in 2013.
The Hawkyes and Nittany Lions will take the mats against each other in a non-conference dual in Iowa City at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The two programs have met every year since 1982, but their annual meeting was omitted from the Big Ten schedule when conference dates were announced earlier this summer.
The upcoming dual in December will be the 36th meeting between the two schools. Iowa leads the all-time series 26-7-2.
Penn State has won three straight NCAA titles since former Iowa State wrestler and coach Cael Sanderson took over the program. The last six NCAA titles have been won by either Iowa or Penn State.
Iowa has won 23 national titles in program history, including a three-year run from 2008-10, while the Nittany Lions enter the 2013-14 season as three-time defending NCAA champions.
The Iowa-Penn State dual is considered a special event and will not be included in the Iowa wrestling season ticket package. Season ticket holders will have the first chance to purchase tickets beginning Sept. 23. Starting Oct. 7, all seats will be available for purchase to the general public. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for youth.
There is no admission charged to University of Iowa students or children 5 years old and younger.
The dual will be televised by BTN. The complete BTN wrestling schedule will be announced at a later date.
