Iowa woman accused of stealing $3,000 worth of Girl Scout cookies

People will do a lot of things to get Girl Scout cookies. A woman in Iowa is accused of writing a bad check to procure $3,000 worth of the yearly delights.

Denise Gordon-Kamm, 59, went to the Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa office on March 6. During her trip, she purchased boxes of Girl Scout cookies totally $3,000 using a check. When troop leaders attempted to deposit Gordon-Kamm's check, it bounced.

When the check returned for insufficient funds, troop leaders paid Gordon-Kamm a visit at her home, seeking to recover the cookies.

Gordon-Kamm did not cooperate with troop leaders, leading to the police being called. Police arrived on the scene and arrested Gordon-Kamm for theft and check fraud. The officers were able to recover some boxes of cookies from Gordon-Kamm's car, but several boxes are unaccounted for.

Perhaps next time, troop leaders will insist on cash only when selling cookies in large quantities.
