Iowa Soccer: Hawkeyes earn easy win over Missouri

The Hawkeye soccer team won another spring exhibition by way of shutout.

Iowa scored its second straight shutout by beating Missouri 3-0 on Saturday.

The Tigers were an NCAA Championships qualifier in the fall.

“We did some nice things today against a very good and athletic Missouri team,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “We want to keep this momentum as we head through spring break. I’m very proud of the effort and result today.”

Brooke Backes scored the first Iowa goal off a nice pass from Cloe Lacasse and then the Hawkeyes poured in two more goals in the second half to put away Missouri with relative ease.

Junior Ashley Catrell knocked in the second goal of the game off an assist from Nicole Urban and then Lacasse tallied the final goal off an assist from freshman Lana Bonekemper.

Freshman Hannah Clark was in goal for the Hawkeyes in the first half, while sophomore Kiley Beck closed the shutout in the second half.

Iowa is 2-0-0 in spring play, outscoring its opponents by an 8-0 margin. Seven players have combined to score Iowa’s eight goals thus far.

The Hawkeyes will continue their spring season on April 9, traveling to South Bend, Ind., to meet Notre Dame and Grand Valley State.
