Iowa's West Fork High senior Lindsey Peterson suffered a freak accident that has now put an end to her basketball season. The Sheffield Press shared the details on Jan. 3.

The accident involving West Ford High senior Lindsey Peterson happened in the locker room as teammates from the basketball team were taking pictures. Peterson slipped and fell from a bench she was standing on, and she hit her face on the bench corner. The team's coach, Rodney Huber, said, “It was the worst thing I've seen.” He notes that Peterson ended up with a big gash on the side of her face and the injury affected her teeth and gums as well.

The accident led to 100 stitches for West Fork High senior Lindsey Peterson. In addition, doctors put three plates in her face and she will probably need plastic surgery to counter nerve damage. Sadly the freak accident apparently happened on Peterson's 18th birthday.

Lindsey Peterson is said to be out for at least six weeks, which means her basketball season is over. She also is an all-state volleyball player, holding school records for digs and kills. Here's hoping West Fork High senior Lindsey Peterson fully recovers from the frightening accident.
