Iowa pulls offer to New Jersey running back

Iowa pulled a scholarship offer to New Jersey running back Tevin Shaw this week, due to scholarships being filled up by the time Shaw informed the Hawkeyes he would accept the offer. With National Signing Day now less than 24 hours away, Shaw is re-thinking his entire recruitment process and forced to find a new destination that can take him. Could Penn State be in the running?

Shaw, the 28th ranked player in New Jersey is a three-star player according to Rivals.com and has received an offer from Penn State previously. The only school Shaw made an official visit to was Iowa, but he is reported to have medium interest in Penn State, as well as Maryland, and Massachusetts. The only other schools to previously extend an offer are Temple, South Carolina and Towson but none of those schools appears to be in the late running at this point, due to filling up their own recruitment classes and rosters, including Temple.

Penn State already has one running back lined up in their potential Class of 2012, Akeel Lynch from New York, but that should not prevent them from attempting to pick up a player they may feel can add quality and depth to their roster.

Given Penn State's recruiting status under the new coaching staff, Shaw looks like a prospect that would be ripe for the picking on short notice. There is no word that Penn State is taking a hard look at Shaw, but it might be a name to keep in mind tomorrow when the National Letter of Intent faxes start coming in to the office.
