The Big Ten’s top offensive lineman will enter the 2010 NFL draft. Bryan Bulaga is the latest of a long line of Iowa of talented offensive lineman from that University, and it appears to project as a mid to late first round draft pick.
Bulaga draws many comparisons to Iowa star Tackle Robert Gallery, who was the second overall pick in the 204 NFL Draft. He missed some time in 2009 to a Thyroid condition, and didn’t have the dominant season many had predicted, but after a dominating performance in Tuesday night’s Orange Bowl his stock is certainly on the rise.
In that game he matched up against De Derrick Morgan, who appears to be a top ten selection, and the #1 rated DE for the coming NFL Draft. While many have Bulaga rated as the fifth or sixth OT in this draft, his Orange Bowl performance, and a good combine could very well boost him as high as #2 behind Russell Okung of Oklahoma State.
This is a huge loss for the Iowa program, who are also waiting for junior corner Amari Spievey to make is decision. In all it looks like Iowa will lose three starters on their O-Line and will need young players to step up next year, much as Riley Rieff did this year.
