Iowa senior linebacker James Morris did not lead his team in tackles Saturday during Iowa’s 17-10 overtime win against Northwestern.
But the Solon native was all over the field, collecting eight tackles, 2 ½ tackles for loss and two sacks as the Iowa defense held the Wildcats to their lowest point total in the series since 2002.
Four of Morris’ eight tackles were solos and his two sacks were a part of a six-sack day for the defense.
It was the second time Morris was honored by the Big Ten Conference this season. His first selection came after Iowa’s 23-7 win over Minnesota. Morris is the first Hawkeye defensive player to win the honor twice in one season since Jonathan Babineaux did it in 2004.
Morris has been starting at linebacker since his freshman season. He now has 357 career tackles, which ranks eighth on the career list at Iowa.
The Hawkeyes return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday when they host No. 22 Wisconsin at Kinnick Stadium.
