The Iowa football is coming back to Central Iowa.

The Hawkeyes will hold another spring practice at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines on Saturday, April 12.

The practice will begin at 1 p.m. and the West and Southeast gates will open at 11:30 a.m. The University of Iowa Athletics Department will announce the ticketing plan for the event in West Des Moines next week.

“We are pleased to be able to bring our squad to West Des Moines and central Iowa for a second straight year,” said head coach Kirk Ferentz. “We felt a year ago that the event was successful and well received by our players and coaches and our fans in central and western Iowa.”

Concession stands within the stadium will be open but there will not be parking available at Valley Stadium, with the exception of a limited number of spaces in the west parking lot.

There will be parking at Valley Church until 4:30 p.m. and other parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School, Jordan Creek Elementary, WDM City Hall, WDM Library and WDM Church, which all surround the stadium.

No outside food or drink will be allowed in Valley Stadium. Other prohibited items include strollers and umbrellas. Bags also may be subject to search upon entry to Valley Stadium.

“The assistance and cooperation we received from everyone involved from the West Des Moines Community School District and Valley High School played a major role in the success of the event,” said Ferentz. “We appreciate their willingness to work with our program again in the planning and organization of this event.”

There will be no tailgating allowed. Alcohol is never allowed on the city of West Des Moines or West Des Moines Community Schools property. The event also is tobacco-free and there will not be a postgame autograph session.

Iowa will begin spring drills Wednesday, March 26. The Hawkeyes will host the annual spring game in Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, April 26 (2 p.m.) to conclude spring practice.

The Hawkeyes went 8-5 last year and open the 2014 season with home games against Northern Iowa (Aug. 30), Ball State (Sept. 6) and Iowa State (Sept. 13).
