The 18th commitment for the Class of 2014 for the University of Iowa football is a three-star quarterback who previously gave a verbal pledge to Rutgers.
Tyler Wiegers, the 26th ranked prospect at his position according to scout.com, pulled out of his commitment to Rutgers recently, opened up his recruitment and changed his mind to the Hawkeyes on Friday.
Wiegers stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 195, which leads evaluators at scout.com to believe that he will be physically ready to play at the collegiate level when he arrives on campus next summer.
The Beverly Hills, Michigan, prep has good accuracy, size and a good release, but needs to work on his field vision, according to scout.com. He has only started one season at Detroit Country Day School where he led the football team to a state title as a junior.
Wiegers also received offers from Rutgers, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Pennsylvania and Toledo.
Rivals.com has Weigers as a four-star QB. There are some evaluators who also feel like Wiegers should have had more major Division I offers.
Wiegers is the only QB in the 2014 class. The Hawkeyes also have a verbal commitment from 2015 prospect and four-star QB Jack Beneventi, who is 6-6 and ranked No. 12 at his position. Beneventi had offers from Illinois and Notre Dame, among others.
