Tim Cooney (1-0) went six strong innings and the Redbirds put up six runs in the fourth inning as the Memphis Redbirds (3-0) cruised to an 11-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs (0-3) on Saturday night.

Memphis got to Iowa starter Kyle Hendricks (0-1) early when Greg Garcia led off the game with a triple and later scored on an Arismendy Alcantara error.

Iowa would tie the game at 1-1 in the third when Matt Szczur scored on an Alcantara sacrifice fly. From there, things went downhill for Iowa. Javier Baez was called out on a check swing and ejected by the home plate umpire. Baez has gone 0-for-9 with six strikeouts in his first three games in triple-A.

Memphis put up six runs in the fourth on Hendricks, including a two-run double by St. Louis Cardinals top prospect Oscar Taveras.

Pitcher Neil Ramirez, made his Iowa Cubs debut in the seventh. After retiring two of the first three batters, Ramirez walked Scott Moore and Xavier Scruggs to load the bases. Redbirds catcher Audry Perez blasted the first pitch he saw from Ramirez over the left field wall for a grand slam, extending the Memphis lead to 11-1 and putting the game out of reach.

Iowa will try and salvage the final game of a four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.

ROSTER NOTES: Alberto Cabrera cleared waivers and was added to the roster on Friday. Cabrera made his 2014 Iowa Cubs debut on Saturday, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.
