Paced by a five run seventh inning, the Round Rock Express (10-7) cruised to a 6-0 shutout over the Iowa Cubs (8-9) on Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. Iowa has been shutout in two of its last three games and currently sits at the bottom of the PCL in team batting average, currently at .211.

The big inning for Round Rock began with a single by former I-Cubs outfielder Brad Snyder and came off Iowa starter Carlos Pimentel. An errant pickoff throw by Pimentel allowed Snyder to advance to third. Snyder scored on an RBI single by Chris Gimenez, chasing Pimentel from the game and giving Round Rock a 2-0 lead.

Zach Rosscup took over for Pimentel and was greeted with a double by Express center fielder Jared Hoying. An intentional walk to Ryan Strausborger would load the bases for Round Rock. Kensuke Tanaka and Bryan Petersen each reached on RBI walks by Rosscup, extending the lead to 4-0. Two batters later, Brett Nicholas’ two-run single increased the lead to six runs.

Iowa wasn’t able to get any sustained offense in against Express starter Nick Tepesch (3-1). Tepesch pitched six innings, giving up five hits and two walks, while striking out five.

Pimentel (1-3) took the loss for Iowa, going six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out five. Rosscup followed Pimentel and gave up three runs on two hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.

Adam Rosales began the scoring for Round Rock launching his fourth home run of the season in the fifth.

Matt Szczur and Logan Watkins had two hits each for Iowa. Javier Baez, in his first game back from a sprained ankle, went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

NOTES: Javier Baez came off the disabled list on Sunday. Edgar Gonzalez was placed on the disabled list with a right calf strain.
